How Often Should You Post on LinkedIn?

How Often Should You Post on LinkedIn?

If posting on LinkedIn daily was the key to success, then every LinkedIn creator would be a gazillionaire. However, given that’s not the case, the question remains: How often should you post on LinkedIn?

In this article, we’ll break it down from multiple perspectives:

  • How often should you post to keep the LinkedIn algorithm happy?
  • How often should you post to keep your audience engaged?
  • Should you schedule posts or post manually?

This article is inspired by the recent episode of the Social Media for B2B Growth Podcast hosted by Michelle J Raymond, which discusses this topic in more detail.

1. Does the LinkedIn Algorithm Reward Daily Posting?

One of the most common questions I hear is, "How often should I post to keep the LinkedIn algorithm happy?" But here’s the truth: you aren't posting for the algorithm. You’re posting for your audience.

LinkedIn has been clear about its priorities. It values content that creates conversations and is relevant to its audience. The platform doesn’t necessarily push for more content; it pushes for quality interactions.

So, does LinkedIn reward you for posting more? Not necessarily.

Here’s what I’ve observed from working with clients, running my own experiments and research:

  • If you post multiple times a day, your second post tends to perform worse because it competes with your first one. You effectively cannibalise your reach.
  • If you repost too frequently, it can reduce the reach of your original posts.
  • If you post every day, you may see diminishing returns unless you have an engaged audience.

The takeaway? Quality over quantity.

This is code for - stop rushing out mediocre content just for the sake of it! Scale back and focus on high-value posts.

2. What’s More Important Than the Algorithm? Your Game Plan

Before deciding how often to post on LinkedIn, you need to ask yourself, what is my goal on LinkedIn?

In my G.R.O.W.T.H Framework, the ‘G’ stands for 'Game Plan', and this is where every LinkedIn strategy should start.

  • Are you using LinkedIn to generate leads?
  • Are you trying to build brand awareness?
  • Are you growing a new community?
  • How much time can I dedicate to creating LinkedIn content?

If you have a small network, posting every day won’t necessarily help. If only 10% of your connections see your post, and you have 200 connections, that’s just 20 people. Instead, you should focus on growing your network and engaging with others.

On the other hand, if you have a larger audience and resources (e.g., a content team), you can post three to five times per week and sustain it long-term.

The key? Find a sustainable posting frequency that keeps you visible and aligned with your business goals.

3. The Sweet Spot: How Often Should You Post on LinkedIn?

The answer is - it depends ?? C'mon, you knew I would say that.

For those of you who want me to give a number, my recommendation is three times a week for most people.

Why?

  • It keeps you top of mind without requiring significant resources.
  • Most LinkedIn posts stay visible for 48-72 hours, so posting every other day ensures a steady presence.
  • It’s manageable; you can stay consistent without burning out.

Of course, this varies. If you’re launching a new product, you might increase your frequency. If business is booming and you’re short on time, posting twice a week might be enough. If you are starting once per week, that would be more suitable.

The key is consistency over the long term.

4. Should You Schedule LinkedIn Posts?

Now for the big debate: to schedule or not to schedule?

Some say scheduling posts reduces reach, but I call rubbish on that. Here’s why scheduling works:

  1. It helps you stay consistent – Life gets busy, and if you rely on manual posting, you’ll likely miss days.
  2. You can batch your content – Writing multiple posts in one sitting is easier than doing it daily.
  3. You can post at optimal times?– Write when it suits you and schedule when your audience is online.

"Scheduling does not kill reach. Ignoring your audience does." Michelle J Raymond

How to Schedule LinkedIn Posts

  • Directly in LinkedIn – Use the built-in scheduler when creating a post.
  • Third-party tools like Metricool – Schedule posts in advance and even repurpose successful content.

Does Scheduling Impact Engagement?

The real reason people think scheduled posts underperform? Engagement.

LinkedIn rewards posts that generate conversations. If you schedule posts but don’t engage with comments, LinkedIn assumes your content isn’t worth pushing further.

So, if you schedule your posts, make sure you:

  • Engage before and after posting – Comment on others’ content beforehand.
  • Reply to comments – Even if you can’t babysit your post for an hour, respond as soon as you can.

5. Final Thoughts: What’s Your LinkedIn Posting Strategy?

At the end of the day, your posting frequency should align with:

  1. Your goals – Are you building a brand, generating leads, or growing a community?
  2. Your capacity – Can you sustain daily posts, or is three times a week more realistic?
  3. Your audience’s needs – Are you showing up consistently enough to stay top of mind?

If you’re starting out, one post per week is enough while you focus on networking and engagement. As you get more confident, increase to three times a week and see what works for you.

And remember, slow down to speed up. Build consistency first, then increase your frequency over time.

Great tips Michelle, as always. I completely agree that quality and consistency over quantity, especially for Company Pages, wins. Scheduling posts is a must. Metricool is definitely my saving grace. I'd also add that the overly stylized, corporate looking posts do far less for overall scroll-stopping. If you can't stop the scroll, nothing else really matters. Looking forward to listening to the podcast! Thanks for being here!

Great share Michelle J Raymond. Appreciate the insights and there is no silver bullet but still a constant test and iterate.

This is very helpful. The message is to create posts that create conversations. I think the tip is if that is not happening, to spend time connecting with others that could be potential ICA's. This could be a game changer. Thank you.
