How Often Should I Email My List?

This is one of those questions that can cause a lot of anxiety.

There’s a lot that goes into that decision: your specialty, the kind of offers you’re making, the format of your message, your time and ability, etc.

As a general rule, I encourage you to send emails as frequently as you can write high quality emails.??

It's very simple:

More emails = more connection = more money

And believe it or not, people unsubscribe at a higher rate when you email less frequently versus more frequently.?

Sending emails once a week or even every day doesn’t make you a spammer.?

It’s the people who send one email a month (or less) that seem like strangers sending random messages. After that much time has gone by, your subscribers may not remember who you are, let alone why they wanted to be on your list.

According to the data I’ve seen, weekly emails and daily emails have almost the exact same unsubscribe rate.

But unsubscribes go up when you wait more than 7 days between messages.?

Here’s the analogy I use.

Steve Harvey is on broadcast TV at least once a day – and he’s on the radio every day. People tune in to watch and/or listen every day.

No one says, “Man, I wish Steve Harvey would stop being on Family Feud every day.”

It's the opposite. Steve's people want to see Steve. They'll pay attention as often as he shows up with content they like and find valuable.

You want to figure out how to be Steve Harvey to your people.

I get this question a lot from my author clients. They don’t want to bother their readers. I’ve found readers buy from authors they know. If you email once a year to promote the new release, they probably forgot they were on your email list.
