What are the different types of Switzerland Residence Permits?
To work in Switzerland, one must apply for a residence permit to stay in the country. The different types of Switzerland Residence Permits are as follows:
International citizens who are interested in working in the country for a period of 3 months to 1 year are eligible to apply for this permit. The duration you can stay with this permit is the same as the one mentioned in your employment contract.
Foreign citizens willing to work in the country for 5 years while having an employment contract for a year can apply for this visa. Upon eligibility, you can extend this permit for another 5 years.
You must be a foreign citizen residing in other EU/EFTA member states and are willing to work in Switzerland. If you are a cross-border commuter, then it is mandatory to go to the location in your home country per week/ day. This permit G has a validity period of up to 5 years.
Permit F permits foreign citizens temporarily admitted to leave Switzerland and return to their home countries. However, this action has been deemed as:
Permit F has one-year validity and, upon satisfying certain eligibility requirements, can be renewed once. Anyone with a permit F is eligible to work anywhere in Switzerland.
This residence permit with gainful employment is granted to family members like spouses and children less than 25 years of age who live with the primary applicant. The permit gives access to the Swiss labour market even when they are employed either as consultants or as interns. The Ci permit has a limited validity influenced by the duration of the primary holder’s function.
The Permit S allows holders to stay in the country and is not permitted to leave the country and come back. The S permit holders are not eligible to hold residence in the country. If the individual with an S Permit is interested to change employment then they have to ask permission. It is mandatory to show the new employer a copy of their S Permit.
