Niacinamide
Is it the super ingredient ?
What is it actually used for ?
Niacinamide is a form of vitamin B3 , it is used in all sorts of products : serums, moisturizers, treatments you name it.
Actually I don’t know the exact mechanism of niacinamide -biology speaking-?but what I am sure about it is a multifunctional ingredient
Lets’ get straight to the point , what are the functions of Niacinamide ?
1-???It promotes a healthy skin barrier and improves its texture :
It works by promoting keratin synthesis and stimulation of ceramides , both contribute to a healthy skin barrier , better skin barrier means you are better at retaining skin moisture
2-???It regulates oily skin :
One of the few ingredients that has a sebum regulation effect when used for long term
3-???It is very effective against skin pigmentation
Niacinamide is a good team mate , it works very well with other skin brightening superstars like kojic acid and vitamin c , it targets melanosomes and prevent these cells from transferring pigment

So , the most important question is ..
How much Niacinamide do I need to have a happy skin and get all the benefits ?
Trendy products like “the ordinary “one you know it and other lookalike brands are claiming to use a 10% concentration of Niacinamide and maybe more
I think this is overuse ,actually it’s a very high concentration and its risky to cause irritation on certain types of skin
Niacinamide has been shown to be effective at as low as 2% maybe 4-5% maybe very good , specially if its your first time using Niacinamide
Also you don’t have to use it on daily basis , maybe 2-3 times a week is great
So when using a high concentration product bare in mind its not “ordinary” to do so and use it with caution , don’t use it because” your friend tried it and it worked for them “ please , remember your friend is a totally different human being and skincare is a personal experience
Hope this guides you well:)
