As I write this post....I am in hospital. I am with my son who receives regular blood transfusions due to his ongoing health needs.
There was a period of time, where we were in hospital every week, then there was a gap of two weeks and now we attend a full day every three weeks. On some visits, we were allocated a bed in day surgery and on other occasions we were grateful to get a bed on the main ward. In the past we have received care in the Child Assessment Unit (CAU) and on one visit, I was so proud of my son, as he sat in a chair to receive blood as the ward was full. Sometimes, our visit was a short 5 hours (rare but welcomed) and many a times we stayed for 9/10 hours and waited for an opening so a canula could be inserted by the busy doctors, who were covering three different areas in the same shift: the Children's Ward, Emergency and the CAU.
Blood for my son was ordered in advance but we completely understood if at last minute, an emergency arose, and his allocated blood was now to be used for another patient... it meant a further 2 hour wait for my son. However, in the hospital, I was rarely without my laptop. The waiting time in the hospital was a glorious time for me to write my first book and be grateful that I was well and creating a wellbeing tool for future readers! Hence a lot of my writing for #Laughmorebook took place in the hospital amidst the banter and support of the nursing and medical support. They confirmed what I wrote in my book, laughter was a tool for them to cope with their jobs and it aided their connection with each other and the patients.
Today I showed the team on duty, my happy finished product... my first book: Laugh More: Soar in your Health, Career and Relationships. Thank you nurses, doctors and support staff for cheering me on and listening to my updates. Copies of my book swinging their way soon!.
Huge THANK YOU to all the staff and services at EAST SURREY HOSPITAL. It's been a DECADE of receiving regular healthcare and I count my blessings everyday that my son is in such good hands.
THANK YOU NHS and all that workers in the HHS that provide their skills, services and support. You aid my son's well-being and mine too.
