How a new approach helped this community bring an ancient ritual to life online.
Looking back on Lab/Shul's online High Holy Days 5781 services.
The Lab/Shul team has always been ahead of its time, reaching its community and producing interactive online content even before COVID made those production approaches necessary. But for its High Holy Days 5781 services, Lab/Shul's executive and core ritual teams wanted to elevate the production value and give their community a beautiful audio visual experience.
After the event, we sat down with Lab/Shul's Executive Director, Sarah Sokolic to get her perspective on what it was like to work with Global's audio-visual production team. Here's what Sarah had to say:
LIVESTREAM PRODUCTION SERVICES

LIVESTREAMING WITH MULTIPLE CAMERAS
We elevated production value using a variety of camera angles.
We usually recommend livestreaming with multiple cameras to increase viewer engagement and elevate the production value by showcasing a variety of camera angles. For Lab/Shul's High Holy Days, one of those camera angles came from our 21' jib and delivered sweeping camera movements that made the livestream feel like a high-quality television studio broadcast. Two other cameras fitted with zoom lenses allowed us to capture intimate close-ups of the musicians and ritual leaders.
VIRTUAL EVENT PLATFORM
Our virtual event platform centralized activities and built community.
The team at Lab/Shul wanted to create a special experience for their audience. So, we customized an @InEvent virtual event platform to centralize Lab/Shul's multiple, concurrent activities, provide a destination for people to watch the livestream together, and foster a sense of community. The platform was designed around Lab/Shul's program needs and featured:
- Ticket Sales & Registration
- Event Livestream Platform
- Pre-Recorded Sessions
- Breakout Rooms
- Live Chat Functionality
- Fundraising Links
- Private Messaging
LIVESTREAM REMOTE GUESTS
We included presenters from around the world who couldn't participate in person.
Our production team connected remote guests of all ages and technical abilities to the livestream and used graphics like lower thirds and closed captioning to provide an inclusive, informative viewing experience. Presenters delivered their messages and our team kept the tech out of their way.
Staging and Rental Equipment
We provided the equipment and team to address all of the technical production needs.
Global solved the technical production needs by providing all of the staging and rental equipment necessary to film and livestream the High Holy Days services online. Our team delivered and set up the equipment the night before the event began to allow plenty of time for rehearsals and tech-checks prior to the livestream event.
Conclusion
In the end, Lab/Shul's High Holy Days production was a resounding success and reached nearly twice as many people as traditional in-person services. The high quality audio visual production attracted and held participants' attention, allowed Lab/Shul to be seen in its best light (pun intended), and made a lasting impression on attendees. Centralizing the multi-day activities using the InEvent platform helped our team deliver the customized, interactive experience that Lab/Shul sought to create in a way that was accessible to all of its community members. Having our production team onsite to oversee and manage the audio-visual production allowed the Lab/Shul team to focus on their message and performance without worrying about all of the technical production aspects.
