How to never run out of content ideas

Many years ago, when I did my degree in Creative Writing and Film Studies, one of the things my lecturer made us do - on the Creative Writing side - was to keep an observation notebook for a season.
We would take this notebook everywhere with us - at home, on the train, in the shower - and observe and note down anything that stood out for whatever reason.
At the end of the four weeks of doing this, we would then go through the notebook, compile the most interesting parts and use this to craft a creative story.
The whole idea behind this exercise was to get us budding authors used to the idea that stories are all around us - all we have to do is pay attention.
Why some people struggle with content creation
The same is true for creating content on LinkedIn.
In my line of work as a LinkedIn Visibility Coach, I have a lot of conversations with women who struggle with content creation.
One thing these women usually have in common is that they detach the content creation process from their day-to-day life.
Maybe it’s the same for you.
Maybe you struggle with creating content for LinkedIn because you see it as an undesirable extracurricular activity that you have to plan for and devote time to outside of your regular day-to-day work.
Whilst there is some truth in that (you definitely DO need to have a plan if you want to achieve business-building results with your content), a sure-fire way to make sure you never run out of content ideas is to become an observer in your own life.
Content is all around you
Pay close attention to the things that happen in your life, in your business, on a day-to-day basis, and jot these down.
You can use a physical notepad, like I did back in those days, or a digital one, it really doesn’t matter. What’s important is that you actively observe and listen to what’s going on around you in the course of your work.
What are the conversations your target audience are having on and offline? What questions do you get asked time and time again by potential clients? What ‘aha’ moment did you receive in the course of your day today? What new experience have you tried this week?
All of these have the potential to make good content that fits into one or more of the three categories of content you should be posting on LinkedIn (see my article here).
Content is all around you. When you become a keen observer in your own work life, you’ll find your struggle to create content for LinkedIn will drastically reduce or eliminate completely!
? ? How do you create content for LinkedIn?
Do you mine content from the day-to-day of your life or do you have a different approach that’s working for you?
