Make a lasting impression when meeting new people
Shulin Lee: Making a lasting impression goes beyond simply trying to impress . Treat the room like your event. Approach with curiosity, ask what excites them, and offer value. Share something unexpected, like, "Did you know most great business ideas come from casual conversations like these?" Follow up with a personalised message, referencing specific discussions, and show interest in their hobbies for deeper rapport.
Leverage social media to network effectively
Nina Devouge: Authenticity is key. Share content that truly reflects your interests and engage thoughtfully with others. Consistency matters — post relevant content regularly, aligning with your professional goals. Use platforms like LinkedIn to personalise connection requests and interact meaningfully to build stronger relationships.
Common networking mistakes to avoid
Shulin Lee: Don't treat people like stepping stones. Listen first, then share your story. Networking isn’t about collecting business cards; it's about real connections. Avoid dominating conversations and don't ask for favours too soon — building trust takes time.

Introverts can build a strong professional network too
Shulin Lee: Don’t try to network like an extrovert. Play to your strengths. Introverts are great listeners. Start small, ask open-ended questions, and focus on one-on-one connections. Prepare topics in advance to ease the pressure. It’s about being real, not loud.
