How to negotiate with bullies

How to negotiate with bullies

How to #negotiate with bullies is a question that I often get asked. The first thing to do is to recognise that the behavior of bullies is something that the person probably has always done. At school and because they got their own way by using these tactics, that’s what they are #negotiatingtactics, they continue to use them in business and life.

When people don’t strand up to them it reinforces their behaviour.

Bullies only respect other bullies. They just ride rough shod over people who give into them. They don't respect them. I have worked with several people who have suffered at the hands of these people and each time I have reminded them that they have a choice. They don’t have to deal with them. When you are in any sort of negotiation, you have a choice, you can always walk away. However before you walk away you have to a create an alternative position. Or you have to review your alternative position and take steps to strengthen it. Once you realise what your alternative position is and that you have one you can then feel more confident and build that confidence up.

So here are my three tip top tips for dealing with bullies

1 - Number 1 recognise them for what they are.

2 - Stand up to them in a non-confrontational way.

3 - Make sure you are able to walk away by increasing the strength of your alternative position
