THREE WAYS TO NAIL REPEAT BUSINESS
John is the manager for Dane's Auto Repair and is Dane's son-in-law. Dane started his business 24 years ago. They were celebrating Dane's 76th birthday that evening.
I'll bet they have a lot of repeat business. Keep reading about my very first experience with this company and why I will be back. Their exceptional customer care skills should be practiced in every business.
A couple of weeks ago, I had a flat tire. A fluke. A nail flew directly into the sidewall of my back tire as I drove by one of those guys who was blowing mowed grass off the city street sidewalk. The tire went flat immediately. Ha! True story. Heat factor that day was over 100 degrees and the sun was bright and hot! I pulled into the first crossover, turned the flashers on and left the air conditioning running. No one even slowed down. I was clearly on my own.
Hmmm! What to do? I probably would not be picking up my new prescription sunglasses after all. And, it had been awhile since I'd experienced a flat tire. At one time I could have changed it myself (this is not one of those "used to" stories), but I was caught offguard and not even sure there was a spare; could not have lifted that 18" wheel/tire anyway!
My 1st call was to the 800 number on the back of my driver's license. I talked to an officer in Sherman, Texas, (300+ miles to the North of where I was in Houston); no help there. My 2nd call was to an auto repair shop said they couldn't help me; no solutions, no concern offered. The 3rd call was picked up by an answering machine. My 4th call got me John at Dane's Auto Repair.
I explained my dilemma and even told John that if he recommended I call a wrecker, then I would. He asked for directions to my location, said he'd come check it out and he showed up about 10-15 minutes later. After spending about 20 minutes laying on the hot concrete, and me holding the back end door up (the shocks on the door had worked a few days before) and attempting to get the spare (located under the back end) loose to no avail, he left it up to me to call a wrecker or he would call someone he trusted for me and also asked if I wanted the vehicle towed to my house, his shop or somewhere else. I did not know a wrecker driver and asked him to call them and have my Trailblazer towed to his shop. John called 290 Wrecker Service and had a friendly dialogue ending with, 'and hurry up; it's hot out here!'
Another half hour and the wrecker driver and I showed up at Dane's. Every bay in his garage was full but John began working on my vehicle immediately. He removed the flat tire and put air in the spare which only had 5 pounds of air in it. It was not easy getting the flat tire off but John took care of it. When he finished, I asked if he had shocks for the back door. He charged me no labor to install two new shocks. In fact, after three hours of my time and a solid hour of his time, his rates were exceptionally fair.
This was a genuine God job!
Three main reasons I will be using Dane's in the future:
- Treat people right. John showed compassion by coming out to check on me where I was broken down on the road. After all, Houston is not the safest city to be broken down on the side of the road.
- He demonstrated a willingness to help and provide solutions to help me resolve the problem.
- The price was right! And he charged a super fair price for everything. (My brother said a wrecker would have cost him what I was charged for everything!)
It's been on my mind to tell everyone about John. (https://www.danesautorepair.com/) He doesn't know it yet, but we have just found our new mechanic. We will be back. Thank you John. And, my husband has already taken steps to ensure the spare is in good working order and bought four new tires; but new or old, that would not have made a difference to the nail.
