How my time at Salford Business School has prepared me for a career in Digital Marketing

As I stood at the crossroads of my academic and professional journey, the decision loomed large before me: should I pursue my studies in the UK, or explore the numerous opportunities awaiting me in other European countries? With a background in engineering as an undergraduate and a role as a trainer for a prominent US Healthcare company, the path ahead seemed uncertain. However, amidst the uncertainty, one thing remained clear: my aspiration to become a successful digital marketer. This blog chronicles my transition, from the realms of engineering to the dynamic world of digital marketing, driven by a desire to leverage my customer-convincing skills and embark on a new chapter of professional growth and fulfillment. Join me as I delve into the nuances of this transformative journey.

Stepping onto the unfamiliar grounds of the University of Salford marked the culmination of a month-long anticipation since my arrival in the UK. The eagerness to forge new connections with professors, friends, and acquaintances had been building up within me, and finally, the moment arrived to turn expectations into reality. On my first day at Salford, the induction process unfolded with meticulous detail, covering everything from the course curriculum to UK assignment guidelines, and even the code of misconduct. It was a comprehensive introduction to the academic landscape awaiting me. However, what truly made the day memorable was the opportunity to interact with individuals from different countries and ethnicities for the first time.

Here’s an overview of the modules I have taken so far: Digital Marketing Communications. Currently, I am in my second module, which focuses on Search and Social Media Marketing.

Embarking on Digital Marketing Communications was thrilling yet challenging. Initially overwhelmed by the UK assignment structure, I sought guidance from tutors, library staff, and peers. Their support boosted my confidence, aiding me through the initial hurdles. Despite doubting my creativity, assignments encouraged consumer-centric thinking. While not top marks, achieving a distinction felt like a major step forward. It showcased my growth in this dynamic field. Additionally, the module emphasized the importance of storytelling and branding. The assignments also tested my strong writing skills.

In my second module, Search and Social Media Marketing, I faced initial apprehension when the tutor described it as the toughest module. True to their words, the first week left me feeling completely lost. However, as we delved into the assignments, my perception of the module underwent a dramatic shift. I realized that this is precisely what I signed up for as a postgraduate student?—?the opportunity to apply theoretical learning to real-world scenarios. Concepts like basic SEO, keyword research, SWOT, and PESTEL analysis, as well as buyer persona, which once seemed like a foreign language to me, started to make sense. I owe a debt of gratitude to Professor Mirage Islam and Magda Marchowska-Raza for elucidating the importance of personal branding and how these factors contribute to its enhancement. Crafting an assignment on my personal brand not only honed my proofreading and writing skills but also equipped me with the ability to create captivating content.

As I approach the final days of my studies at the Salford Business School, I’m filled with a sense of anticipation for the future. Reflecting on the invaluable experience gained over the past few months, I feel a surge of excitement for what lies ahead. With a comprehensive understanding of digital marketing skills acquired through my coursework, I’m now prepared to embark on the next chapter of my journey. My aim is to secure an internship in the digital marketing field that not only fosters personal growth but also allows me to apply and refine the skills I’ve acquired. Ultimately, I aspire to excel in my endeavors and pass all modules with distinction. With determination and enthusiasm, I look forward to transitioning into a role as a content marketing executive or strategist here in the UK. This marks not just the end of one chapter but the beginning of an exciting new adventure.
