How my marketing course has prepared me for the industry...

My Course Journey:

As my three-year journey at university is coming to an end, it is time to reflect on my time at the University of Wolverhampton and my course.

When deciding where to study for university at the height of the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, in all honesty I had absolutely no idea what I wanted to pursue career wise, all I knew is that from college, Business Management was my passion.

The Business Management course at the University of Wolverhampton was the perfect option for me because it enabled me to study topics from a magnitude of areas within business and then I was then able to select to specialise in an area for my final year. After studying the variety of topics, marketing shone through for me.

My Final Year- The start of my marketing journey:

Katrina within the first two years at university was shy, filled with worries about what the future looked like career wise, but as soon as this final year began, I knew I had made the best decision- beginning my marketing journey…

Marketing for me has been summarised perfectly by a fellow marketeer as being the glue that holds a company together. For me, I couldn’t agree more.

I have gained so much valuable knowledge around topics including but not limited to: blog writing, digital content creation for social media, marketing tools, marketing channels, SEO, CRM, and marketing strategy- as well as being able to apply my understanding and analyse real life businesses and provide my recommendations and suggested organisational objectives.

The weekly marketing bootcamps have been highly beneficial and I have loved hearing others stories and journey's within the marketing industry. I have enjoyed working through different digital marketing courses, including Google’s Fundamentals of Digital Marketing, to expand my marketing knowledge further.

The incredible events I have taken part in, including the Women in Business and Sustainability conferences, and interviews I have been invited to do, all allowed me to network with some exceptional people, and gain so much self-confidence.???

As well as all of this, taking part in the incredible placement opportunity with Neutronic Technologies, gave me another chance to apply my knowledge to an existing company, and I cannot thank Corey and Megan enough for all of their support during this time!

I have so much to thank marketing for, even in just the short amount of time I have been solely focused on the area. Marketing allows me to let my creativity flow, which for me is a huge benefit for my mental health.

This year’s modules have allowed me to be my truest self, starting my personal branding journey, which encouraged me to even share my mental health story via LinkedIn, which was NEVER something I thought I would be able to do.

The University of Wolverhampton:

I would recommend The University of Wolverhampton to anybody! The sense of community on campus is priceless and has made my journey so much easier.

First year was hard being completely online, however I was still able to make new friends, even if we couldn’t meet in person until year 2! Being course representative enabled me to connect with students from other years, and lecturers from across the business school, which made me feel so much more comfortable attending campus in year 2.

I have had the pleasure of being taught by some fantastic lecturers, all of whom have been so supportive and have provided me with so much knowledge that I will be taking forward in my future career. Special thanks here to Hajrija, Emma and Imran!

It truly is the University of Opportunity!

Personal Growth:

My biggest gain from my university experience is how my self-confidence and self-belief has grown. I now have a clear vision of where I want to go regarding career, I feel passionate about what I do and overall, I feel able to be the real me. Sharing the highs and the lows.

I couldn’t have done it without the support of my INCREDIBLE uni friends, who have supported me all the way. I couldn’t be more grateful to them and proud of them and their exceptional achievements! Friends for life!
