How music source separation might help you join (or create!) viral trends & promote your music

For a couple of days, music media outlets have been buzzing about a new TikTok success story—Megan Boni who has created a viral meme song, 'Man in Finance' that inspired loads of videos featuring her vocals and lines that say “I’m looking for a man in finance, trust fund, 6’5”, blue eyes.” Her viral video (which was posted in April) has been viewed 28.6M times and even was proclaimed as the 'song of the summer'.

Some time after the song went viral, Boni had a label deal with Capitol/Polydor/Virgin Germany. It's not the first time when TikTok becomes a starting point for aspiring musicians and jumpstarts their career, often overnight.

As Billboard notes, "While Boni admits she was 'just having fun' with making the video, known as 'Man In Finance,' her signing is also indicative of how major labels are evolving to meet the current demands — and breakneck pace — of user-generated music creation."

But what truly captivated everyone was those simple, repetitive acapella rhymes that inspired countless remixes. Renowned producers like David Guetta, Alesso, Loud Luxury, and other DJs quickly adopted this sound, incorporating it as the lead element in a variety of TikTok tracks. Now, thanks to the collaboration with Capitol/Polydor/Virgin Germany, Boni is officially licensing her TikTok vocal to these producers for formal releases. The first of these, “Man In Finance (G6 Trust Fund)” featuring Billen Ted, was released on May 17. In this track, the producer duo combines Boni’s vocals with original drums and a sample from Far East Movement’s “Like a G6.”

The remixes dominated TikTok, catapulting Boni's initial burst of virality even higher.

Boni, whose label deal is solely a licensing agreement for this particular vocal, tells Billboard that she has no plans to write more songs but intends to enjoy the experience while it lasts.
