According to Aldora, in 2025, mobile, PC, and console games will collectively add $17 billion to the total consumer spending compared to 2023. With mobile gaming alone contributing $9.9 billion. However, console hardware spending is expected to decrease by $8.3 billion during by that time. Overall, the market is projected to grow to a total of $250 billion by 2025.
Here are a couple of highlights from Aldora's latest report focusing on the growth, and decline of market segments:
- Market Growth: The global gaming market is projected to reach $250.2 billion by 2025, reflecting a 5.26% increase compared to $237.7 billion in 2023.
- Mobile Gaming: Continues to dominate, expected to generate $115.7 billion by 2025. Up from $105.8b in 2023.
- Console Gaming: Hardware sales are projected to decline by 31% in 2024, but software sales will compensate for the decline, resulting in $44.9 billion in consumer spending. The decline will continue into 2025, but recovery is anticipated with the launch of a new generation of hardware.
- Esports: Is facing a decline from $200 million in 2023 to $160 million in 2025. Over the last few years, we have seen major sponsors abandon esports as well. Aldora highlights the need for rethinking how esports is monetized.
- Transmedia Strategies: We will see more game companies use their IP in other types of entertainment to increase their revenues. At the same time, non-gaming brands will cosy up to the game industry. Who doesn't want to be a virtual Ikea employee?
