How much time do you spend re-formatting someone else's SQL?

One thing I really dislike is spending time looking at others peoples SQL code and wasting time formatting it before I can even begin to read it

Yesterday I saw someone using a really useful free tool

Poor SQL - Instant Free and Open-Source T-SQL Formatting

Poor SQL does a pretty good job of taking most of the time wasted away by automatically reformatting the SQL code and immediately making it readable

The site has a basic focus on getting the job done and has a good few samples to show what it does, here is an example

You simply drop your (or someone else's!) badly formatted code on the 'INPUT SQL' tab

No alt text provided for this image

Then the 'Formatted SQL' tab transforms this into much more readily digestible code

No alt text provided for this image

And that is usually good enough for most purposes

There are also a range of options so you can customise the output, but to honest I found it quite good as it was and a lot better than the mess I loaded in in the first place

Give it a try, its free, and never waste all that time again
