How much stress is too much stress?

April is Stress Awareness month, and it’s a topic that I feel really strongly about. During the 2008 Financial crisis, I was putting out fire after fire constantly, and the toll it took on every aspect of my life can’t ever be overstated.
Sadly, I wasn’t alone during that time, and a lot of people I know succumbed to the effects of such chronic stress.
It’s true that a little bit of stress can be somewhat good for you – a tiny rush of adrenaline when you’re up against a deadline, or when you want to beat your PB on a run – but when that stress is constant and unending, that’s when it becomes dangerous. And remember that the effects are cumulative over time. Think of it like a drip in the ceiling. At first it might be the odd drip every now and then and you don’t pay too much attention to it. But take your eye off the ball and you could find that the drip gets worse and worse until the entire ceiling’s caved in!
So I’d encourage anyone and everyone to recognise the signs of chronic stress and seek help as and when you need it.
