How much IT is needed for a perfect draft beer?
Everybody knows Heineken and everyone has a feeling with the brand. No doubts.
Did you know we have a big Global Technology Department at Heineken? Moreover, a more important question: How much IT do we need for what we do?
That question did not come to my mind before actually. It is a very normal question to ask though, when you think of it. How much IT do we need to brew beer? How much IT do we need to bottle the beer in the most secure way? How much IT do we need to transport your favourite draft beer to your local shop, your favourite bar or even tonight at your home? How much IT do we need to predict the colour of our beloved Heineken beer according the ingredients we use? Just think of our Data science (Insights) projects and all other innovations like the Smart Fridge we have worked (and others still working) on. I can go on for hours raising questions like this, but you already understand where I am heading.
IT within Heineken in the last couple of years has made a significant change from a support function towards a hot seat on ‘The Table’ where it all happens. We are not just the people you go to when your laptop is giving you a hard time. Not at all, we are here to build a solid fundament for Heineken to build on success in the most efficient and secure way. That everybody in the world can enjoy Heineken as much as we do.
What is it like to work for Heineken IT? (we call ourselves internally: Heineken GIS. GIS stands for Global Information Services).
Well, just imagine a building in the heart of Amsterdam full of agile working team, made of highly skilled and intelligent, passionate colleagues. We are still in an agile journey, so we are learning relentlessly, with floors filled with scrum boards, colourful sticky notes, big screens and Heineken associates who share their passion with each other. All eager to learn every day, to have impact on our world and to connect.
Working within Heineken means that you work in teams, collaboration is a big thing here. We use the hashtag #WeareHeineken not just for fun! You are not alone. Helping each other is not just something you think of, you just do it, it is part of our DNA.
We are working on great (large) projects that have an international scope. Just think of it to have a day that starts with a coffee with your direct teammates, next a Skype meeting with your colleague in Mexico for an update on a project you both work on. Followed by a get acquainted meeting with a new colleague that started this week, after your lunch break in our restaurant you join an inspirational talk in the ITalks, giving yourself a little adrenaline during a soccer or a F1 race match on the PlayStation with a colleague who was desperate to beat you this time. Rounding up with your team and share output by the end of the day. No day is the same at Heineken GIS. Yes, working hard is what we do, but we also want to inspire you and stretch you.
If you are interested to learn more about us we would like to invite to come on over to one of our Beer & Tech events, and feel free to get inspired by our Go Places videos. You probably have seen the Go Places Interview video before, but we have more.. so much more!
