How much does a website cost?

We all know there are costs to doing business, but how much of what we perceive to be a cost, could potentially be an investment?
A lot of people I talk to in our local market, can't tell me how much their website returns, but they all know how much it cost...
I believe a website (with the right strategy) can be one of the most powerful marketing tools you can have in your arsenal as a business and what's even better, is the metrics are so easy to analyse - if you know what you want to look for that is.
You need to understand that a website is an investment - and a constant work in progress.
At back9, we treat our website as if it were a team member, so we know that we need certain expectations and KPIs which we can measure and improve upon. We know, for example, our website might convert 8-10% of our website traffic (or site visitors) per month into leads or contacts. And we know that we convert around 50% of our leads into work, so if we want more revenue, we need more work, to get more work we need more leads, so logic suggests we need to drive more traffic to get more people visiting our website - and that's where we invest our time and resources - simple, right? Well, it is if you're willing to invest time, energy and money into it. And like any investment, it's a long game. You need to be prepared to build, grow and adapt.
So with that said, I don't believe the question is how much does a website cost, but, how much could a website potentially return and how much are you willing to invest to make that happen?
It's not rocket science but it's certainly not easy either. Luckily for us - and our clients - we have a diverse team of talented and committed individuals who love to set goals, so they can analyse and measure results and then find creative solutions to continually improve results and make things [work] better!
