How Much Does It Cost to Sell a Home?

When you’re ready to sell your home, you will want to determine roughly how much you can expect to net after the sale. To determine that, you not only need to know how much you house will likely sell for, but also the selling costs you are likely to incur in the process.
The costs of selling can vary depending on a number of factors, but here is a general idea of what you should consider:
- Repairs – What repairs do you need to have done to attract buyers? It could be fixing a leaky faucet or cracked window.
- Renovations – You might get more for your house if you invest in some upgrades such as a higher end countertop or new toilet. Replacing old and worn items around your house make it more attractive to buyers.
- Commissions – This amount is calculated as a percentage of the sale price.
- Legal Fees – A good real estate attorney is needed to handle all the legal paperwork that is required when selling a house. Make calls to area attorneys to see what their fees for house closings are.
- Moving Costs – If you’re selling, you’re probably moving, so it’s best to figure that cost into your expenses.
Even though this may seem like a lot, selling costs are pretty easy to estimate. Once you have that number, it will be easy to calculate how much money you’ll have to put towards your next home. Need assistance with any of this? Contact me at (585) 317-7749.
