Later this year, my first book will be published. To stay motivated, focused, creative, and productive while writing it, I utilized a combination of neuroscience, mindfulness, psychology, and physical movement tools. In this article, I'll share with you some of the techniques that I used.?
Writing and publishing a book, particularly the first one, involves dealing with significant mental, physical, and emotional resistance, self-doubt, self-criticism, and imposter syndrome.?
It's not uncommon to feel overwhelmed and anxious, as you may know from your own experiences with taking on significant tasks. There is a risk of getting distracted easily, which can lead to self-sabotage and leaving all the pages blank.
Mental Game.
Firstly, let me explain how you can naturally increase your motivation and focus. One useful technique is to apply a neuroscience strategy to enhance your motivation.
Your emotions, whether positive or negative, are significantly influenced by the way you talk to yourself on a minute-to-minute basis. It’s not the events themselves that determine how you feel, but rather your interpretation of those events.?
The way you tell the story about these events can have a significant impact on whether they motivate or demotivate you, as well as whether they energize or de-energize you.
To maintain motivation and focus, CHOOSING an optimistic outlook is crucial. And here is a neuroscience trick that can help release extra dopamine, providing an added boost of motivation and focus.?
I will repeat it: it is crucial that you?CHOOSE?to become a complete optimist. Not must, or should, or have to, but?CHOOSE.?
It's important to keep in mind that we experience a greater rush of dopamine when we perceive something as a choice rather than an obligation.?
This exercise involves a mental game where you consciously?CHOOSE?to react positively to the words, actions, and reactions of the people and situations around you.?If you catch yourself being negative, make a deliberate effort to?CHOOSE?to be positive.?
Remember from my previous article , that when you create conditions for your brain to release positive neurochemicals, your nervous system resets, ridding itself of negative neurochemicals.

Next, I will explain how you can use brain chemicals to manage your emotions and stay motivated when working on big projects.?
During long-term projects, you may experience various emotions and thoughts, so it's crucial to be aware of them and have effective tools to deal with them.

If you're feeling anxious or tired, you may have low levels of serotonin. To increase serotonin levels, you can try going for walks or runs, exposing yourself to sunlight, eating natural foods like fruits and vegetables, or practising slow breathing exercises.
Low levels of endorphins may cause stress or anger. To boost endorphin levels, you can try singing a song, having sex, participating in intense exercises, taking a bath, or going to a sauna.
Low levels of oxytocin can lead to feelings of loneliness or self-doubt. To increase oxytocin levels, you can try practising positive self-talk in front of a mirror, socializing, supporting others, engaging in charitable work, or cuddling with someone.
If you're experiencing feelings of depression or laziness, along with a lack of motivation, it may be due to low levels of dopamine. To raise dopamine levels, you can try clearing and reorganizing your to-do list, taking cold showers, avoiding excessive scrolling on social media, taking a phone detox, and establishing a sense of organization in your life.
