How to motivate others through the frame of self-interest

How to motivate others through the frame of self-interest

The motivation to perform an action is directly related to the amount of perceived benefit or value obtained from doing it.?In other words, people?are all driven to lesser or greater degrees by self-interest.?

Therefore, if you want to motivate others to act, consider the following:?

  • what is important to them?
  • what do they value highly?
  • what would make them wholeheartedly embrace this change or request I am asking of them??

Whether you want your boss to act in your favour, a team member to make improvement changes, or others in your world to move in certain directions, consider: what is in it for them.?

And then pitch your requests in the frame of their self-interest, because it could make a world of difference to the results, just by considering them.?

A large amount of my leadership development and coaching work involves helping people act and to move in specific directions according to management’s vision for them. If you could do with some help or have a situation you would like to discuss, feel free to message or call me on +61 403 341 105.
