How to be more Resilient

?“You can′t control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them.” - Maya Angelou
What is Resilience?
Resilience is undeniably a necessary skill for anyone to have and to continue to develop. If there ever was any doubt how essential this skill really is, the events of the past few years have highlighted this necessity in Capital Letters. ?
So, let′s clarify what I mean by building Resilience as a leader
A resilient leader is someone who has the tools to manage their emotions and stay balanced even in difficult situations.
Resilient people are open and accepting of change, demonstrate flexibility and view challenges as opportunities.
Resilient people proactively change direction and speed when necessary.
They can bounce around, bounce against something without breaking and also without breaking whatever it has impacted.
In the face of adversity resilient leaders have mechanisms in place to reduce stress, anxiety and frustration so that they don′t loose perspective, and continue to feel strong and empowered. ?
As a Resilient Leader you will need to regulate your emotions, feel balanced, and demonstrate that consistently to others when facing uncertainty and adversity.
The No 1 way to work on Resilience is to work on your mindset.
Working with an Executive Coach is not a requirement to develop resilience, but certainly can facilitate the process by giving a leader the time, space and a conversation partner to support, challenge and frame the journey in a way that leads the executive in the direction of embracing a mindset and practicing behaviors that increase resilience. ??
What are some of the keys to Think in a way that promotes Resilience.
When our expectations appear to me more of a wish list that a set of events that could realistically occur, we are setting ourselves up for disappointment, frustration and other negative emotions that just drain us.
Setting realistic expectations that we can meet will allow us to take on challenges in a positive way and to conquer challenges step by step. This allows you to register a number of small yet significant wins. ?

2. ??Focus on the present moment
?It is essential for any leader to have a vision and to think strategically about how to make that vision a reality. However, be aware of the vision-implementation gap. In order reach that future state you need to work forward from the present moment, taking the necessary steps and making the right decisions. Focusing on what to do now and how to do it to be successful will keep you on track, focused, free from unwanted distractions and will move you closer to the end goal one success at a time.
3.???Stay in tune to your emotion
While it is not possible to avoid negative and unwanted emotions, it is crucial to identify and accept the emotions you do have when they come. You might not like, but if you are aware of them and can recognize them when they appear you have a better change of managing them in an exemplary way.
4.???Embrace Change
The only constant is constant change. Adaptability, flexibility, innovation and creativity are some of the most important leadership skills to demonstrate in 2022. Those who embrace change, know how to pivot, iterate and adapt will lead the way in results and will also enjoy the ride. ?
5.???Be Proactive, not reactive
Putting out fires and reacting to what happens around us is a very common way of working, particularly in a fast paced start-up environment. In order to build resilience, try thinking things through and reflecting before responding.?Strategic thinking, and setting a north star that shines light in the direction you want to go will allow you to think and act from a place of clarity and purpose. You might not be in control of what happens around you, but you are in control of how you react. ?
