Successful companies always share at least one thing in common: a thriving and satisfied workforce. But ensuring your employees are happy is a task that takes focused and repeated efforts — especially when your company is a remote and distributed workforce.?
While each of our teams attends offsite meetings a few times per year to work together in person, for the majority of the year, we work ‘together’ from thousands of miles away! Through concerted efforts to maintain open communication and the use of platforms like Slack and Google Meets, we’re able to routinely meet and exceed company goals.?
But meeting company goals is only a part, albeit a big one, of running a successful company. A huge part of a company’s success comes from forging a happy and healthy work environment. That’s why, at ButterflyMX, we encourage our employees to collaborate and team-build in a fun environment through our monthly community events.?

This month, team members were invited to a unique crafting event: resin cutting board making!
Participants were sent kits that included a plain wood cutting board, a set of twelve paint colors, epoxy resin, and safety tools to work with the resin. With a dozen colors to pick from and the possibility of mixing to achieve the perfect hue, each team member was able to create the perfect cutting board to match their home decor and aesthetic.?
After picking the perfect palette, mixing up their colors, and taping off the parts of the board they wanted to keep clean, attendees got to the fun part: pouring! They poured each color in stripes, puddles, and lines to loosely create a pattern. Then, with popsicle sticks and a straw, they swirled the colors until they were satisfied with the design.?
Because attendees were given so many colors to choose from — and because resin pours are never uniform — each cutting board turned out totally different and unique. Some attendees went for a deep purple, galaxy-inspired color palette, while others went for an earthy brown and green selection. Whatever combination of colors or pour technique they picked, every attendee was left with a bright and colorful piece of art by the end of the class.?

One of these attendees, Rebecca Cline, a Content Writer for ButterflyMX, joined the event to try out a new craft while mingling with coworkers she doesn’t get to see on a regular basis. “The resin class with our people team was exactly the excuse I needed to finally try resin art,” Rebecca says of the class. “The kit and instructions were easy to follow, and the teacher was engaging. I really enjoyed creating a piece of art during my work day, and I can't wait for the next community event!”
Not only did the resin pouring class leave each attendee with a unique and pretty cutting board to decorate their kitchen with, but they also got to spend an afternoon working with their hands and chatting with coworkers they may not normally get the chance to hang out with!
