How Mindset Can Impact Your Results in 2020! New Year, New Mindset

As we come to the end of 2019, this is a great time to reflect and review.

A critical and crucial part of any happiness, success and fulfilment you build will start with this but so many men don’t even consider it.

In fact, Duke University in 2006 found that 45% of all daily behaviour is automatic so we are not even aware of it for nearly half the time.

WOW, how much are we missing out on if we don’t even know it?

Today I am talking about mindset.

It is a huge growth sector, self-development, particularly around mindset. There are books (Mindset by Carol Dweck), there are documentaries on it, a vast amount of research papers on it, apps etc.

The list seems endless.

The question that comes to mind (excuse the pun), where do I start?

I like Stephen Convey’s work on this, “start with the end in mind”.

It is simple but effective.

What is it that you actually want in life?

What does happiness, success and fulfilment feel and look to you?

These are very important questions that often get overlooked.

When it comes to work/career men tend to make it a higher priority on their list and in fact once this is in place and in a good place men would more likely be content with other key areas in their life.

A study in 2017 which surveyed 2,000 men in the UK, led by John Barry, co-founder of male psychology section of the British Psychological Society showed that

“Men at work are more likely to be men at ease with themselves. Everything else—contentment at home, in relationships and friendships—flows down from men being satisfied at work.”

What do I mean my mindset?

Mindset is fluid, forever changing, it is the start of everything. It is your blueprint to what makes you feel, act and behave the way you do.

Why is mindset important?

Everything you want in life, key relationships, more money, success, better health, happiness, breaking through struggles and problems all starts with mindset.

You may or may not have heard/seen/read that…

Beliefs>Thoughts>Feelings>Actions>Results

The first 3 are all internal, the last two are external.

The bridge between the internal world and the external world is action.

The internal world is all linked to mindset.

The key to unlocking better results is to first start with your beliefs.

Your beliefs are hardwired into you mainly by your environment especially when growing up (0-7 years old).

For example, if you lived with parents who always communicated by shouting and screaming at each other, you are more likely to do the same with your family/children.

We can pick up positive supportive beliefs or negative non-supportive beliefs.

Think of yourself like a computer, stored full of files called experiences.

When a situation arises, you will go back to whatever is stored in your computer and find a file. This file can be supportive or non-supportive to the situation.

In the first instance, this is how you will react straight away.

It takes conscious effort or an abrupt experience to change this file/belief.

Until there is a need or a want to change or an abrupt experience, you will remain the same.

Where in your life are you carrying non-supportive files?

Is it time to make a change in 2020?

How could a new supportive file impact your life?

Remember,

“When making a change, one of the hardest parts is to get going and keep going, don’t wait, start now”
