How Might Silence Be Valuable in Our Conversations?

I have long admired and studied the works of Joseph Chilton Pearce, a prolific author and expert in child development. He knew human beings were inherently amazing and offered insights and nudges to support us to move past our complacency and to realize our astonishing capacities and potential.
Pearce once shared with an interviewer that there were several books he thought all human beings should read, so I immediately purchased and read them. One was Original Wisdom: Stories of an Ancient Way of Knowing, by Robert Wolff.
I also highly recommend that work as a way to gain a fresh and refreshing perspective on human beings and how we can live with each other. Wolff was a Westerner who spent time with indigenous peoples and told his story about those journeys and the people he loved.
One seeming small observation from the author was that during his visits he noticed long pauses in conversation.
What came to me in relationship to that sharing was that these people must be waiting to be moved to speak rather than speaking to avoid silence. I don’t know if that was what was happening, of course. But I accepted that personal insight as useful information for how I want to live.
Silence on my part happens more and more often in the conversations I have.
I can tell I speak more from what wants to be spoken rather than saying something because “it’s my turn.”
We can be receivers of wisdom, with a focus to be in service and serving – inviting the Universe, God, Source, Spirit, Awareness, Consciousness, Divine Intelligence (whatever the name is that you call all-that-is) to use “us.”
To use the “me” that arises out of, is made from and expresses the Universe.
