Decades ago, if you wanted to hear a song from your favourite artist you had to put it on the record player.
But a few years later, with the advancement of technology, it is extremely easy to play your fav song within seconds.
What if I tell you that you can attend an intimate gig with your favourite artist right there in your living room?
Metaverse has made it possible.
In the first newsletter, I shared 101 on metaverse. What it means and why everyone is talking about it.
But I often found that one of the best ways to define an ever-moving concept is to rule out the things that it’s not! #ruleofelimination
So let me tell you what metaverse is not!
-??????????Metaverse is not new: The term “Metaverse” was first coined in a novel called “Snow Crash” dating back to 1992 so is not a new concept. In addition, 3D “virtual worlds” have been built by game companies for several years.
-??????????Metaverse is not restricted to gaming: People often believe metaverse is for gamers. It’s true that its early adoption has been in the gaming industry, but the metaverse will have great significance for all industries right from music, online shopping, and corporate setting to industrial and healthcare use cases.
-??????????Metaverse is not just Meta (Facebook): Since Meta’s announcement of its name change and focus on bringing the Metaverse to life, people often condense Metaverse to Meta. But this is not the extent of the Metaverse. The Metaverse tends to have a different view depending on who is asked. Meta’s view is just one of those views.
-??????????Metaverse is not exclusive to AR/VR or dependent on a VR headset: Though few underlying tech requires you to have a virtual headset, many metaverse developers intend for their platforms to be ‘device agnostic’ – i.e. they can be used on a phone or any other normal screen, as well as a headset.
Now that we know what metaverse is not! Let's see how it will impact our lives.
With the pandemic, we have seen?the rise of digital adoption. Starting with payments and ending with identification verification, everything has gone digital. Therefore, a virtual world like the metaverse has the potential to change how businesses and individuals view and use technology.

1.???????Education: Using virtual reality headsets, students and teachers may connect in the digital world regardless of where they are in the physical world. In an immersive 3D setting, the teacher can discuss discoveries with the class and demonstrate them to the students. Based on their lesson ideas, educators can construct virtual landscapes. Virtual reality can enhance traditional educational approaches in the classroom by allowing students to explore historical sites or carry out risky experiments in a secure setting.
2.???????Manufacturing: Industries can utilize Metaverse to build a virtual factory in the manufacturing sector. Industries would be able to see their whole production pipeline from beginning to end and make changes in real-time. Additionally, this would make it possible for companies to teach new hires without having them physically present on the assembly line.
3.???????Digital Healthcare: Metaverse is anticipated to be a useful tool for performing challenging surgical procedures and improving patient care. Complex surgeries will soon incorporate augmented reality (AR), just as surgical procedures use robotics.
4.???????Social Media: The metaverse provides users with a considerably higher level of immersion that feels almost like in-person communication, in contrast to existing messaging services and social media.
5.???????Events: From the Australian Open’s sporting event to Samsung’s product launch, many brands are planning to organize their next corporate event in the Metaverse.???Metaverse will allow brands to create meaningful and unforgettable experiences by taking consumers on a product journey, allowing them to interact with it in a more immersive way.

7.???????Travel: Metaverse will change how users can book their favourite destinations. As of now, people visit various travel websites and decide where they want to stay by looking at the images. Although it certainly helps in making a decision, the experience is two-dimensional and monotonous.??With a Metaverse-led approach, the hospitality industry can create immersive 3D virtual tours where users can walk in and out in digital avatars.??A great use case for the Metaverse where holidays and trips can be taken from the comfort of your own home.
With Web3, Metaverse, and new-age technologies, we are certainly moving towards a brighter future of better connectivity with the world.
