How The Metaverse Will Change Support

As part of the Player Support realm, talking about the Metaverse and its future seems a bit dystopian.?

Why? When we think about Metaverse, we think about scenarios similar to Ready Player One, where we require companies to cooperate in this virtual world.

Currently, I don't see?Second Life?having much motivation to give players a portal to jump straight over to?World of Warcraft, even if it were easy to do so, the raw computing power needed for such a concept could be much further away than we think.?

It's at this point that most discussions of what the metaverse entails start to stall, at least for the gaming world. We need to keep this context in mind because while it's tempting to compare the ideas of what we have today versus the early internet and assume everything will fall together in time, that's not a given.?

One thing for sure is that the current traditional player support model has inconveniences that fail to meet players’ and companies’ needs. Also, as part of this enhanced virtual reality, we need to take into consideration the threshold of what is the scope of player support.

What is the future of player support? First of all, we need to agree that our current support models are becoming obsolete, just because the metaverse just like social media, thrives on delivering presence.

  • Experience is one of the most important things that support takes into consideration not only for feedback but also for quality, and in the metaverse, we need to aim on creating platforms where the players can enjoy the feature of social interaction and at the same time, voice their concerns about any issue they might find in their way.
  • Toxicity is part of the gaming environment whether we like to admit it or not, and most of the time in order to prevent this, all player support has a conduct code that would lead to suspending a player or even getting their account banned from the game. Now, in the metaverse, I believe we will have new forms of toxicity which will require new tools just because different people and different environments will be present in a visceral way. • Ownership is one of the concepts that is becoming a big concern, just because the technology that metaverse experiences are being built on is deeply intertwined with blockchain systems: the underlying tech behind cryptocurrency and NFTs. Player support will need to evolve and create ways to track and develop policies for ownership. Here is an article about ownership in the Metaverse.

Final Thoughts: The best is yet to come in the Metaverse

?I've covered some opportunities and risks that we could potentially experience in the Metaverse.

Right now, it's difficult to prove that these would be actual dilemmas for player support to look into, just because the platforms haven't really taken shape yet.

Let me know what you think, and what else you see becoming a potential opportunity/risk.
