How metals are molten in foundry
Castings is a production process to pour molten metal into a prepared mold to form its shape, castings products are widely used in our daily life, such as furniture hardware, cooking hardware, automatic parts, etc.
Do you know how metals are molten in Investment castings foundry? Let’s talk about it today.
1, Prepare the raw materials, for example, if we want to produce pump bodies with material stainless steel 316, we prepare the Alloys, scrap metal according a formula that specifies the percentages of each type.
2, Put the raw material into electric furnace tank.
3. Turn on the electric furnace, electrodes run electrical current through the metal inside the furnace, and the metals inside the tank is molten gradually
4, After all the metals are molten entirely, add slagging agent into molten metal in time in order to remove the steel slag on the motel steel surface. As steel slag will create casting defects in final products.
5, Take a spoon of molten metal as specimen to check the chemical components by Spectrometer. If the chemical components don’t meet the standard, then add corresponding alloy to adjust its percentage, after the added alloy molten entirely, take specimen and test it again, repeat this process until all the chemical components meet the standard.
In our foundry, our professional engineer can make the chemical components meet the standard with one adjustment step at most. For materials with regular production, they don’t need any adjustment, it increases the production efficiency and saves the production cost. As a result, it helps clients to save cost.
6, After the chemical components and temperature of molten metal meet the specified standard, pour the molten metal into investment castings shell.
7, Take the last remaining molten metal as specimen to check its chemical components again by spectrometer, use this result as the final chemical components report for this pouring batch.
8, Keep the specimen for one year for traceability, or keep it longer according to clients’ requirement.
