How McDonald's Got Its Groove Back...

Back in 2015, the "Golden Arches” fell on hard times.

In fact, more locations closed than opened in the US that year.

Faced with declining sales in their all global markets, they desperately needed to get back in the black.

Now, there are a few ways you can increase revenue:

1. Increase the amount customers spend

2. Encourage them to buy more frequently

3. Cut costs

Sure, there are other options, but when you already serve over two billion customers monthly, focusing on your existing base (instead of expanding) makes a lot of sense.

As analyzed by the UK-based CAB customer experience agency, to achieve the above objectives, McDonald’s implemented the following tweaks and optimizations into new, experimental, "restaurant of the future” locations (which are cropping up in key markets, coast to coast).

First up, to increase ticket value McDonald’s is highlighting their premium-priced “Signature” items.

What you can’t see are the animations to further catch the eye.

And note the “Extra Value” menu only accounts for about 15-20% of the total visible space (hard to see here, so take my word for it.)

Also (and this is hard to see too), there are no prices next to the pictures of the pricer burgers, wraps, and sandwiches, reducing the psychological friction to indulging oneself—as the experience, rather than the price, anchors.

Next, another feat this new menu layout accomplishes is positioning what were once standard items now as “Extra Value.”

Thus, the “regulars” who are ordering their usual meals are likely to associate even more value to their purchase (and will ideally purchase more often as a result).

Finally, to cut staffing costs, McDonald’s now has self-serve kiosks and the ability to take app orders, significantly reducing the personal required to interface with customers.

The result of these tweaks?

Investors are excited.

Sales are up.

McDonald’s share price has increased 50% over the last two years.

Not bad, right?

And guess what?

In the same way McDonald’s is automating their checkout process, you too can generate sales on complete autopilot, without prospecting, rejection, or even interacting with your customers one-on-one.

So you can be making sales, even if you’re on a late-night McNugget and Baked Apple Pie run.
