Happy New Year to you! We’re starting off 2022 with wisdom from Damon Brown, the author of Career Remix! My guest for the first interview in ’22 will be Dr. Stefanie K. Johnson, the author of Inclusify! Take part in our conversation later on today at 12 pm EST / 9 am PST/5 pm GMT, for my weekly Newsweek interview series, Better. We’ll be talking about leading an inclusive organization. The conversations continue to become more of a roundtable discussion - set yourself a reminder and join us here!
Just in case you aren’t part of my email list, which has completely different content than this newsletter, sign up here - you’ll get advice about personal branding, strategies to grow your business, and how to lead a more fulfilling life.
Damon Brown has fully bought into the method of generating revenue from passive income streams with more than 50 of them to his name! By focusing on what he wanted for his life and spending time doing the type of work he enjoys, he has found his unique strengths and how to maximize them for his career. Below are just a few highlights from our talk, and you can watch our interview in its entirety here.
Recognizing your power in an interview:
"You both have equal power. If they didn't have to hire you, they wouldn't hire you. Even if it was a nonprofit, that's not their job to hire you. They're hiring you because you have a particular service, a particular point of view, a particular power that they need to go to the next level. I don't care if they're paying you a dollar or $5 million, they're hiring you for a reason. Recognize that in every contract that you sign and every job interview that you're interviewing the person who's interviewing you while you're being interviewed for the job.”
Finding a side hustle:
“If you're trying to figure out your best side hustle or your best solopreneurship, think about those things that do not necessarily come naturally to you, but things that fit your personality. One of the things I always say to my coaching clients is to make sure that you enjoy the work that you're doing. Because number one, initially, it's not going to bring in much income.”

Multiplying passive income streams:
“If passive income streams are your priority, try to create one thing and turn it into multiple things. Build From Now ended up becoming an online course on teaching. So that was taking that same content and adding some videos and even expanding on the bibliography in the back. The second thing I recommend is to actually ask the people that you serve. People are literally telling me what they want and it's not just through social media. It's through all these other channels that I think are so important - we need to connect with the audience that we want to serve.”
Thanks so much for reading this week’s newsletter, and I hope to see you later today for my interview with Dr. Stefanie K. Johnson!
If you can’t make today’s interview, there is a replay available! We always upload my weekly interviews to my YouTube page later on in the week. If you’d like to be notified when the newest episode is available, subscribe to my channel and you’ll receive a notification.
