How to Maximize Your Personality Strengths and Skills to Find a Great Job

Psychologist Alfred Adler once said, "The individual is not determined by his circumstances, but rather by his decisions." Viktor Frank, echoed this sentiment, stating, "Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms—to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's own way."

These two quotes speak to the power of our choices. We may not be able to control our circumstances, but we can control our attitude and our decisions. And that is where our personality strengths and skills come in.

When we are aware of our personality strengths and skills, we can make decisions that align with our values and goals. We can also choose to approach our job search with a positive attitude and a determination to succeed.

Here are a few tips on how to maximize your personality strengths and skills in order to find a great job:

  • Identify your personality strengths and skills. There are many different ways to do this. You can take personality assessments (High5test, Clifton Strengths, etc) talk to a coach, or reflect on your past experiences. We tend to know less of ourselves than we believe.
  • Research careers that are a good fit for your strengths and skills. You can use online resources, talk to career counselors, or network with people in different fields. Do not be afraid of asking for help.
  • Tailor your resume and cover letter to each job you apply for. When you are applying for jobs, be sure to tailor your resume and cover letter to each specific position. Highlight the strengths and skills that are most relevant to the job you are applying for.
  • Be prepared to talk about your strengths and skills in interviews. Expect to be asked questions about your strengths and skills. Be prepared to give specific examples of how you have used your strengths and skills in the past.

Remember, you are unique and have something special to offer.
