How mature is your Brain?
I have had a very fulfilling journey with my two children from the time they were born until they reached their current age of 20+ years. I did not know parenting styles or the importance of keeping an eye on their progress as they approached various social, academic, and cognitive milestones. Every time my children gained an inch in height or width or had their hair styled in a way that made them look fashionable, I would rejoice and celebrate. But I was not supposed to celebrate in this manner for long. According to society, children should begin acting like adults by the time they are in their 20s and should perform adult duties and assume adult responsibilities. When they fail to follow through, we begin bragging about how responsible we were in our teens and then in our 20s.
Were we there or not? Do we even remember everything we did in our twenties, such as the dangerous activities we took part in, the rebellious attitude we displayed around it, the laughter and giggling at the most ridiculous things, acting out a sloth bear's daily routine, and so on and so forth??
When my children did not reach the socially prescribed milestones, my parenting style was criticized, and jokes about the genetic makeup I had given them were made. It was claimed that my busy schedule was to blame for my failure to provide the guidance and motivation they needed to achieve their objectives. Because I was already aware of multiple intelligences and emotional intelligence by the time I became a parent, none of the brickbats and taunts affected me as they should have. My two children, who are now acting in line with their true emotional, cognitive, and social potential, will show me many more characteristics as they approach their mid-20s.?
