Many transitions happen without warning. They may be quite dramatic, as in cases of accidents, death, divorce, job loss, or serious illness. COVID-19 made the world transition and transform its policies and practices. However, there are transitions that you can prepare for such as buying your first home, giving birth to your first child, getting married, or getting promoted at work. Here are some specific strategies to help you start your new year off making measurable progress in reasonable time.

1. REFLECT ON THE TRANSITIONS OF YOUR LIFE.

Transitions give you the opportunity to explore what your ideal life would look like. When things are in hectic and adversity is upon you, it is easy to lose sight of your goals and dreams. Reflecting on your life transitions without absorbing or neglecting them. This is the perfect time to write them down in a journal or discuss them with a trusted friend or coach.

2. IDENTIFY THE TRANSFORMATION THAT YOU WANT IN YOUR LIFE

The two main reasons people seek transformation is (1) the need to avoid pain or (2) the desire to seek pleasure. Give yourself something significant to strive for by identifying the transformation you want in your life. No matter if it’s to avoid pain or gain pleasure, you must decide on the transformations you need to happen this upcoming year. Your decisions define your destiny, and that begins with identifying the significant results you are willing to sacrifice for in 2021. You can visualize your ideal lifestyle, body, relationships, finances, and so much more. Write it down and use positive language to describe and influence the transformations you are working on.

3. SELECT SMART GOALS

This New Year will require you to transition from where you are to where you want to be. Making precise plans that accounts for your transitions and transforms your lifestyle will require you to work on SMART goals. As stated in previous articles and my book The 9 P’s of Power: The Psychology of Achievement for Entrepreneurs, this powerful tool will enable you to set Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-bound goals. It will give you the clarity necessary to kill any confusion with the transformation you seek. Setting SMART goals can provide you with a clear path to transition from objective to objective until the transformation exists. Be specific with the goals you want to achieve this upcoming year and path of transformation, as well as the necessary sacrifices to achieve it, will become more and more clear.

4. PRIORITIZE YOUR SMART GOALS

Time is the greatest equalizer on earth. Determining which of your S.M.A.R.T. goals should take priority over the other is critical to your transformation process. You can thrive and systematically achieve your SMART goals If you prioritize them and habitually utilize effective time management skills. Research shows that a whopping 92% of people fail to achieve the New Year’s resolutions, and 25% give up in the first week. Additionally, by the six-month mark, more than half of people who create New Year resolutions give up on them.

5. DECIDE, COMMIT & BE DISCIPLINED

Modern times has taught most people to be uncomfortable with uncertainty. The fact of the matter is, once you decide and commit to transform your life, you must be disciplined to get through the transitions to achieve your desired outcomes. Most people get anxious when their lives are disrupted. You must decide to push past adversity to achieve your desired results. The turbulence of transitions gives each of us the opportunity to learn from our weaknesses, explore and utilize our strengths, and decide what we really want out of life.
