How Many Weeks Left?
How long will you live? There is a notion that we live roughly 4,000 weeks in our lifetimes. My birthday is next week and, on that day, I will have burned through over 3,000 of those 4,000 weeks. If actuarial tables are right, and some calamity does not befall me, I have less than 1,000 weeks left on this planet. Have you thought about your 4,000 weeks? This Think-about-it-Thursday is intended to ask you to think about time.
My first 3,000 weeks
A fey fact about my first 3,000 weeks is... that they are over. Gone. I don’t mean that that they weren’t great. They were. Sure, I made some mistakes and there were more than a couple moments I wish I could do over, but they're gone. The good ones, the bad ones, the happy, the sad, the laughs and tears, they’re all gone. Are you thinking about your past right now? Regrets? Missed opportunities? Amazing victories? Failures? Here is a question to consider: What would it be like for you if, in this very moment, your past did not exist? The only answer: It doesn’t exist anymore, so sorry, move on.
My Next 1,000 weeks
My next 1,000 weeks are in the future. They have not happened. They don’t exist. If I am lucky, they will exist, but not yet. Will it be great? Terrible? No idea. And no amount of hope or fear is likely to change them. Do you spend a bunch of time thinking about what might happen in the future? Here's another question to consider: What if your future did not exist? The only answer: It doesn’t exist yet, so sorry, move on.

The Place in the Middle
So, here is what I want you to noodle on this Thursday – You can’t live in the past, it’s over. You can’t live in the future, it isn’t here yet. So where do live? Right here. The place in the middle - This Moment. You see, you don’t get 4,000 weeks, you only get the moment that sits between the past and the future. Right now. It is where your mind should be. It’s where your words and actions should be focused to do the greatest good for the greatest number.
On my birthday and for every moment before and after, that's where I want to live. I think you should live there too. Are you?
