How many types of requests does a web server return in response to a request made by a client to the Web server?

The total number of HTTP status codes is not fixed, but here are the five categories of HTTP status codes most commonly seen:

  • 1xx Informational:? These status codes indicate that the server has received the request and is continuing to process it. There are fewer status codes in this category.

  • 2xx Success: ?These status codes indicate that the request was successfully received, understood, and accepted. The most common status code in this category is 200, which means the request was successful.
  • 3xx Redirection: ?These status codes indicate that further action must be taken by the client to fulfill the request, such as redirecting to a different URL.
  • 4xx Client Error:? status codes indicate that there was an error on the client's part, such as a malformed request or unauthorized access. The most common status code in this category is 404, which means the requested resource was not found.
  • 5xx Server Error: ?These status codes indicate that the server encountered an error while trying to fulfill the request. The most common status code in this category is 500, which means there was an internal server error.

As of my last update, there are around 60 standard HTTP status codes defined by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) in the RFC 7231 specification. However, not all of these status codes are commonly encountered in everyday web browsing. Typically, web developers and users are more familiar with a subset of these codes, primarily those in the 200 and 400 ranges.
