How many are too many??
Did you know that having too many choices can actually be overwhelming and lead to decision paralysis? When we are offered too many options, our brains can become overloaded and it becomes difficult to make a decision. This is known as the "paradox of choice" and it can have real physiological effects on our well-being.
Research has shown that the optimum number of choices for a purchaser is between 3 and 6 options. When we are presented with this many choices, we are more likely to make a decision and feel satisfied with our choice. Any more than this, and we start to become overwhelmed and decision-making becomes more difficult.
This is particularly relevant in the context of retail service providers for fibre telecommunications in Australia. With so many providers and plans available, it can be overwhelming for consumers to make a decision. This is where it can be beneficial to provide a varying range of service providers, each offering their own differentiator in the market. For example, high customer service v's innovative plan sets v's cheap pricing.
At the end of the day, having too many choices can be detrimental to a purchaser's decision-making and overall well-being. By finding the sweet spot between too few and too many options, we can make better choices and feel more confident in our decisions.
