HOW MANY TIMES DO YOU HAVE TO MISS BEFORE YOU GET IT PERFECT?

How early did LeBron James, Michael Jordan, and other greats get up every morning to practice? How many thousands of shots did they take every week to become such expert players? How much of their fun times did they sacrifice in their youths to dedicate to perfecting their skills? How much teasing did they put up with from their friends when they opted out of going out with the boys?
Of course, these are relevant questions. However, the underlying question to ask is: how did they have the mindset and why? What made them sacrifice the temptations of going out and having fun, opting for working out and practicing? It is easy to dream and imagine what success could be, but quite another to actually be faced with the reality of how to achieve those dreams. The mundane routine of doing things over and over, the reality of frequent failures, the doubts about the ability to really make it to the top. The mental dialogue of "yes, I can" versus "will I ever make it" contributes to a lonely journey since, in the beginning, it is entirely up to us in our own minds. Later, as we improve and become noticed, people come forward, and the doubt and uncertainty are replaced with admiration and encouragement, eventually having people following the example.
The point is, whatever we do in life begins with a "why." Why would I do this? Why do I want to do this? How long will it take to achieve the required result? Will I be able to achieve the goal? What if I fail? Will I have wasted my time? What will people say if I fail? How will I feel if I fail? I have often spoken about having two wolves on our shoulders. A positive one on one side and a negative one on the other shoulder. Which one will thrive? The answer, obviously, is the one you feed. Make sure to starve the negative wolf and thus drown out any negativity and doubts which come up.

In order to successfully overcome some of the doubts and challenges on our journey to reaching our goals, we must find passion. Passion married to focus easily trumps knowledge, negativity, exhaustion, and many other things. Keep your eye on the end result. Don't lose sight of why you are doing what you do.

10 个月The why you mention is easy to answer: You do it because you have a passion for it. It doesn’t matter how long it will take to reach your goal and even then you have to keep on the ball to keep the standard you have reach. Of course you should have a circle of people around you to encourage you and the people who grim when you fail are unimportant, they are probably jealous! Achieving your goal whether it’s in business or sports gives a good feeling, happy feeling and worth all what you have done for it
