Another 60 second pause whilst I took this photo on 14 June. A typical Sitka spruce restock site, 100m away from the previous image.
Again, I used Merlin App to record.
Bonus marks for identifying the species heard singing here, but not in the mature spruce stand.

5 个月There were 6 species in the first 60 seconds here. The list is; General- also found in mature woods on site; wood pigeon, blackbird, wren Restock site only- garden warbler, willow warbler, chiff-chaff. These are all warblers. Between the mature stand and the restock site (100m), that is 11 different bird species singing just before 9am on a June day. Both stands were pure Sitka spruce- according to the compartment schedule, although the photos show a range of vegetation.

5 个月I would expect more in the older woodland as the habit is more developed with more nest sites. The young restock is too small for arboreal species and too dense for the ground nesters.
