How many more Police Officers have to be shot, attacked or killed until we truly get them the help they need?

How many more Police Officers have to be shot, attacked or killed until we truly get them the help they need?

First and Foremost, our thoughts, prayers and hearts go out to all Police Officers and their families. This is no different than a soldier going to war in a foreign country, the only difference is they can come home at night if they are lucky to survive the day.

To honestly help Police Officers we must know the root of the issue.

We have identified a few of those Problems:

  1. Current Police Firearms Training does not prepare them for any sort of issue they may face in a gunfight, attack or other such issues.
  2. Budgets
  3. Society, Media, Special interest Groups, Hate Groups, Terrorist Groups and Politicians.

Solutions to Problems:

Problem #1: Current Police Firearms Training does not prepare them for any sort of issue they may face in a gunfight, attack or other such issues.

First of all, the public has a huge misconception on Police Training.

  • Police Officers are not trained Ninjas with a gun or any other device or weapon!
  • Do you realize that Police Standards and Certifications are rather easy to pass and some departments only SHOOT 50 ROUNDS/BULLETS FROM THEIR GUNS A YEAR TO QUALIFY!
  • MOST PEOPLE HAVE NO IDEA THE LACK OF TRAINING, SO IMAGINE IF YOU HAD TO CALL THE POLICE AND THERE WAS A GUNFIGHT AND THERE COULD BE A PROBABLITY MAYBE EVEN A HIGH PROBABILITY THAT YOU WOULD BE SHOT ON ACCIDENT!

We have reviewed 100’s of videos and case studies where Officers are attacked to base our findings and opinions on “How to Fix the Problem?”

In all of these videos and case studies there seems to be a common dominator; the “Bad Guys” are MOVING!

Just a few examples:

Case in Point: Many different cases everywhere:

News: 84 shots fired 83 misses: this happened in New York “bad guy” was shot in the leg. Luckily there were no innocent bystanders or they might have been hit with stray bullets. Math: 83/84 equals 2% bullet accountability.

  • Note: Terrorist was walking up to car thus Moving. Most Officers I would say 99% do not receive adequate Moving Target Training.

News: 2 dead – 9 wounded in Empire State Building Shooting.

  • Note: Terrorist was walking up to car thus Moving. Most Officers I would say 99% do not receive adequate Moving Target Training.

News: You can Google this and find thousands of examples:

  • Chris Dormer Incident- he was trained
  • Dallas Shooting the “terrorist” was trained- in the video we watched the officer was faked to one side of a pillar and then was approached from the back and executed. We designed a simple fixture to add onto our system for this style of training. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNiycSPpeaw
  • Subway Machete attacker/terrorist on 2 police officers.
  • Many many more – sad but true.

Watch this video: this is a bank store robbery simulation where stray bullets hit “Innocent Civilians”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5C7gLCzD29U

Case in point: 3 different cases, In Vehicle Attacks

2 Police officers killed – ambush style while setting in their vehicle. Ambushed- what could have helped them?

  • Situational Awareness: they never saw it coming – which being in public 99% of your time this is almost unavoidable.
  • Vehicle Armor or Shield maybe could have helped the officers have some protection.
  • Did they have time to draw their weapons? No would be the answer to that question. So maybe having a pistol mount or gun mount in their vehicle that allowed them to draw quickly and efficiently. Do you know how hard it is to draw a pistol with any type of coat on while setting in your car with your seat belt on. This is a recipe for disaster!
  • Note: Terrorist was walking up to car thus Moving. Most Officers I would say 99% do not receive adequate Moving Target Training.

1 Officer shot while setting in his car, he did not die and returned fire on “terrorist”

  • A vehicle shield may have stopped a few rounds from hitting the officer.
  • The ability to address the “terrorist” from his car when attacked
  • Note: Terrorist was running/walking up to car thus Moving. Most Officers I would say 99% do not receive adequate Moving Target Training.
  • Same as above with the ability to draw pistol when seatbelt or any layers of clothing restrict speed to engage.

1 officer recently killed in a driveby/ambush type shooting while parked.

  • Vehicle Shield may have helped or vehicle armor.

Problem #2: Budgets

Every department struggles or cries for a better budget if they don’t they are already sick and tired of the process to get what they need as government bean counters play the odds with their officers lives and YOUR LIFE!

  • Some departments push and push but get no results so it ends up being a waste of their time to even try but most still keep trying or try to find ways to make it happen.
  • MANY POLICE OFFICERS TRY TO GET BETTER TRAINING ON THEIR OWN DIME!

So what is the Solution:

  1. STOP FOREIGN AID AND USE THAT MONEY TO HELP POLICE DEPARTMENTS.
  2. SETUP GO FUND ME PAGES IN EVERY CITY FOR POLICE DEPARTMENTS TO BUY TRAINING SYSTEMS AND GET DIRECT TRAINING.
  3. STOP POLITICAL PUSHING FOR POLICITICALLY CORRECT EQUIPMENT THAT IS A WASTE OF MONEY.
  4. Body Worn cameras range from $300-$500 per officer. Has a body worn camera ever saved a life? NO! Then why bother? Why because a Great officer has to defend himself against a thug and needs that as evidence to make sure he does not go to jail. COME ON Seriously! Can we get some common sense here?
  5. Taser ($300-$500 per officer) vs. Pepper Spray ($50 per officer) vs. using your firearm (already issued) : There has been many cases here where Tasers are a benefit that is granted, but there has been many cases where Tasers DID NOT WORK, or an Officer pulls a Taser then gets killed! So does that make any sense at all when it comes to a BUDGET?
  6. Sensitivity training and other BS. Politically correct training programs. Nowhere has any of these classroom training courses EVER PROVEN there has been a LIFE SAVED. PERIOD. There are standards written for this already, read it know it then hit the street!
  7. Next all the above mentioned equipment has training courses or functions an officer needs to attend to learn how to use the equipment; again a waste of money!
  8. Next THIS IS EXTRA GEAR THAT AN OFFICER HAS TO CARRY THAT INDEED COST THEM THEIR LIVES WITH CREATING AN INABILITY TO REACT FAST ENOUGH TO A THREAT- PROVEN OVER AND OVER IN TRAINING!

Problem #3: Society, Media, Special interest Groups, Hate Groups, Terrorist Groups and Politicians.

I grouped these all together to show the symbolism of how they all interact.

Society is pushed by the media to feel sorry for the criminal while showing disrespect for the Police Officers. Special Interest Groups like Black Lives Matter, Black Panthers, CAIR, Muslim hate groups, Muslim Terrorist Groups, KKK and many more to help CORRUPT POLITICIANS remain in control. THAT IS JUST WRONG!!!!!!

SOLUTIONS:

  1. How much money is spent on foreign aid?

The $20.599 billion spent on foreign aid last year was 76 percent more than the $11.698 billion spent on customs and border protection.

Ok, let’s break that down in Math Sense:

The most recent report from the Bureau of Justice Statistics quadrennial “Census of State and Local Law Enforcement Agencies, 2008” shows that there were over 1.1 million persons employed on a full-time basis by state and local law enforcement in this country in 2008. Of that number, about 765,000 were sworn personnel—which is defined as those with general arrest powers.

The report contains data from 17,985 state and local law enforcement agencies with at least one full-time officer or the equivalent in part-time officers, including:

  • 12,501 local police departments
  • 3,063 sheriffs’ offices
  • 50 primary state law enforcement agencies
  • 1,733 special jurisdiction agencies
  • 683 other agencies, primarily county constable offices in Texas.

There was a slight increase in the number of full-time sworn personnel from 2004 to 2008, with local police departments adding the most officers. Local police departments accounted for 60 percent of the total number of sworn personnel in law enforcement. In 2008 the number of full-time sworn personnel per 100,000 persons in the U.S. was 251: about 1 sworn officer per 400 U.S. residents.

$20.599 billion in foreign aid divided by 17,985 let’s just say 18000!

$20,599,000,000 / 18000 departments= $1,144,388.88 budget dollars per department!

Now we give away our written training program with the purchase of a Target Tracker System or systems. When we sell multiple systems to one agency usually 6 systems we come out and train the departments in our training methodology for 2 days with the department or range only covering our travel expenses.

18000 departments x $3450 per system delivered= $62,100,000 total

Another way to look at it:

$20,599,000,000

-$      62,100,000

$20,536,900,000

We did not even dent the Foreign Aid Budget!

Now remember that $1,144,388.88 budget dollars per department!

  • How many officers could be hired?
  • How many departments do not even have rifles that could be purchased?

  • How many Realistic Training Programs could be performed?
  • How many jobs would be created that truly make our nation safer?
  • How many investigations could be competently conducts and completed to eliminate the terrorist organizations locally and nationally?
  • How many Police cars could be added to the inner city crime areas to help those citizens?

THAT IS JUST ONE EXAMPLE OF HOW TO EFFECTIVELY FUND POLICE DEPARTMENTS FOR TRAINING.

Here is more ways to fund realistic training:

Seriously look at the waste https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/first-read/obama-requests-263-million-police-body-cameras-training-n259161 $263 Million

Oh over $20 million on body cameras https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-nation/wp/2015/05/01/justice-dept-to-help-police-agencies-across-the-country-get-body-cameras/?utm_term=.fef5ceb2cfb7

Heck here is another thought! Obama has spent over $44 million on vacations! https://dailycaller.com/2014/07/05/the-obamas-have-spent-over-44351777-12-in-taxpayer-cash-on-travel/

I hope that the way Police Officers serve and protect, God will watch over them always??

My company danger close solutions touches on these topics with all of our clients and progressive police departments. Without writing a novel, we present the simple fact: More guns, more police, more body armor is not only a defensive measure implying officers must wait for the bad guy to shoot first before responding but it does not eliminate that everything is worthless if the mindset of the operator isn't outfitted with tactical decision making and analysis. Who cares how well you perform in controlled environments if it fails under the pressure of real world scenarios. There is an over abundance of money being spent in the wrong areas. Combat is a thinking man's game. So training your troops accordingly.

I agree. Excellent assessment. Another issue is that police officers are basically good guys and do not want to shoot anyone. Hence the incident of multiple shot fired and one shot hitting. Bad guys are bad guys and will continue to strike even if you are down. More training is necessary on all fronts - firearms, situational awareness, etc. ( I am a certified firearms instructor.) Budgets definitely have to be addressed. I tried to get a program off the ground training First Responders (which would probably be police officers because they are mobile) to learn how to deal with a downed aircraft and not get killed (local airport had a few Cirrus on deck) - location of fuel lines, battery, chute cable, etc. No budget. And I wasn't even asking for payment for myself.

Quoting Wayne McGregor "We have identified a few of those Problems:" I am curious as to what was your process of analysis that led you to identify these as problems.
