Dear Friend,
Imagine, a hacker could change your travel route and thus lure you into a trap.
It sounds scary, isn't it?
But here's the kicker, you don't even have to be a world-class hacker to do this.
Here's why:
Just recently, artist Simon Weckert demonstrated to the world how one person can bend Google Maps to his will.
Firstly, he took 99 second-hand smartphones.
Then he turned ON the navigation service on all of them.
Then he put them in a cart.
And, finally, he walked with it around the city.
As a result, the Google service marked "red" the streets along which Weckert moved and redirected hundreds of cars into a detour.
It's mind-boggling how little was needed to trick Google Maps and create an artificial jam.
This is a crazy world we live in right NOW!
That is why it is so important to promote #cybersecurity among the masses and raise people's awareness.
One of my BIG announcements in the coming days should help.

How long do you think it will take Google to fix this?

Whilst it is a good demonstration things can be subverted, the attack scenario is silly. You can lure someone the same with a couple of stolen diversion signs, much more reliably, and without having to get dozens of phones that can't be traced to you. It's a bit like the hacking pace maker stunt, it might be 'the perfect crime' but it is also an overly elaborate way to murder someone, requires the target has a pacemaker, requires research etc. No attacker would choose that option before ruling out a myriad of easier ways of killing someone.

5 å¹´Good point, Davi Ottenheimer! As Joe Leonard shared with me: In most cases, companies just create a new product and only then start to think how to secure it. Do you agree that we need to integrate security into a process of product creation from the very beginning?
