How many companies/industries will be killed by Apple?!

Last Monday, Apple kicked off its annual Worldwide Developers Conference with a first-of-its-kind special event held at Apple Park, and here are some notes about the key announcement.

Sadly, some organizations/industries are haunted by the new features/concepts that have been announced by Apple: -

1. Buy now, pay later providers like Klarna and Affirm.

Apple introduced Apple Pay Later, which will allow consumers to split payments into 4 installments on every website that accepts Apple Pay. BNPL can help drive Apple Pay adoption and convince more users to use iPhone to pay for items instead of standard credit cards. Apple receives a percentage of transactions made using Apple Pay, driving the company's revenue of more than $50 billion annually in services.

'Buy now, pay later' providers were already in trouble. Apple just gave them one more thing to worry about

2. Webcams companies like Logitech

Apple introduced a continuity camera, that allows using your iPhone as a camera for your Macbook. The new Continuity Camera feature gives users the ability to use their iPhone as a webcam. The best part about this is that all you have to do is bring the iPhone close to your Mac and it will connect automatically.

Since Continuity Camera will use your phone, when the feature is in use, it will silence all incoming notifications. Any important call notifications will be forwarded to the Mac.

3. Passwords managers apps

With Apple Passkeys, you’ll be able to sign in to websites using FaceID without the need for a password. it's designed to use Face ID and Touch ID biometric authentication on your phone or computer for your account logins.

Passkeys are unique digital codes generated for websites you visit in Safari or apps on your iPhone. Instead of typing a password, you log on by selecting a passkey and approving the logon with Face ID or Touch ID. Since they aren't stored on web servers, passkeys can't be hacked or leaked, and because they're locked to the true website or app, users can't be tricked or phished into sharing them like passwords. Apple says that makes them stronger than two-factor authentication.

In addition, passkeys are securely synced across Mac, iPhone, iPad and Apple TV devices using iCloud Keychain with end-to-end encryption, according to Apple. You'll also be able to sign in to websites and apps on non-Apple devices using your iPhone by scanning a QR code using your iPhone's camera to authenticate with Passkeys

4. Medicine reminder apps

Apple adds a medication tracking feature to the Health app. The new medications app will let users add any drugs they take by either scanning a label on a medication bottle or searching through a list of medicines. People can create custom schedules for each drug they are taking and receive alerts to remind them when it’s time to take one.

In the United States, the app will also alert users if there are any dangerous interactions between the drugs that they take.

Other new health features that might be on the horizon might include a temperature sensor on the Apple Watch, which could be used for fertility tracking. (Body temperature changes over the course of the menstrual cycle, and the device can help predict when someone might get their period or become pregnant.)

Apple is executing its vision of controlling our digital life, taking no prisoners along its path.
