How to Manage your Time
Sometimes we’re in a rut, sometimes we’re easily distracted, sometimes we’d rather be watching our favorite Netflix show in our PJ's than do work. Learning how to manage our time to complete our tasks while still having time to unwind is a great skill to have.
Everyone likes to work differently, and it is helpful to find what works best for you. I have made a list of some things that have helped me manage my time:
- Make a schedule. Plan your day by the minute, so you know how you are spending your time. Being mindful of how much time you are spending per task can help you stay on track to complete your duties for the day. It is important to include breaks in your schedule to maximize your energy and efficiency. Use a planner, your phone’s calendar, or bullet journal to craft your schedule the night before. You can make a schedule for the entire week if you’re able to plan ahead and ensure deadlines are met. Give yourself a bit of flexibility in your schedule in case that something comes up or something changes so you can accommodate accordingly.
- Make a to-do list. Make time for the things that are important to you and prioritize your tasks. Categorize your tasks by things that you absolutely must complete by the end of the day, the things you should complete by the end of the day or coming days, and things you need to do soon. Having this time breakdown will help you find which tasks you need to do first, so you will still feel a sense of control even if your schedule changes. Focus on the ones that are most important so you do not feel overwhelmed by the amount of things you need to complete.
- Write everything down. If you remember you need to buy something, need to email someone, just came up with an idea for your next project, or anything, write it down. If you’re having a difficult day, write down your thoughts. This will help you declutter your mind and give space for inner peace and spark brilliant ideas. Organize the things you write down as well so you know where to find them when you need them.
- Have a healthy eating and sleeping schedule. Remember that how you eat and how you sleep affect your energy levels. In order to maximize your day, you must maximize your energy. Do not sacrifice these to get more things accomplished during your day; it only backfires. Prioritizing your mental and physical health is crucial to having a working mind that will allow you to accomplish your tasks.
It is important to be efficient with our time, but please remember that you do not have to work 24/7 to be productive. Going out to enjoy the day, having a nice meal out with your family, or staying in and watching a movie can still be considered being productive.
"... please remember that you do not have to work 24/7 to be productive."
We are human. We are not working robots. Having a healthy balance between life and work is crucial. Everyday is not going to be perfect, but finding the ways to enjoy the simple things in life leads to our happiness and pleasure.
I wish you luck. Take care and be kind to yourselves.

4 年"Write everything down" that's one I've recently had to adopt. I used to be able to manage everything and organize it in my mind but we all hit a ceiling at some point and need to develop systems to reduce commitments falling through the cracks.
