Jamie Lieberman is a Negotiate Anything fan favorite!?
Not only has she been a guest on a previous episode, but she’s also joined me for an epic sparring session (where she, ever so eloquently, put me in my place).???
Thankfully she spared me this episode - but we did end up having a fantastic conversation about BULLIES.
Not only have a number of listeners expressed interest in this topic, but I think we can all relate to the experience of feeling bullied in a difficult conversation.
This can be incredibly overwhelming, and if you aren’t prepared - it threatens to knock you off your game.
The thing to remember about bullies is that they exist to make you feel uncomfortable.
Oftentimes, in attempts to fight or avoid that discomfort, we get further and further from our goals in the negotiation.?

They win.
It’s okay to be frustrated when this happens but we should all be prepared with a toolkit for how to stay grounded and focused when this happens.
Jamie has that toolkit.?
She shares her biggest advice for remaining calm,? staying focused on your ultimate goal and shifting the tone from hostility to collaboration.?
If this resonates…listen to the episode and let me know what you think!?

2 年Gems: Research puts you in a better position to be successful in any negotiation as it let's you understand the other party's values and motivation. There are many biases that may bleed into negotiations and cause emotional vulnerability. The pressure to react to the situation can be dissipated by modulating your tone. A calm disposition can help to alleviate emotional duress as it redirects control to you and away from the aggressor. Phrases like "Help me understand the situation better, if I can maybe we can come to an agreement." "This is not working right now, shall we reschedule another time for this discussion?" A difficult position isn't necessarily synonymous with a difficult negotiator. BATNA. I like that.
