My 'updated' 2020 New Years Resolutions
2019 is coming to an end, a new era is around the corner. We celebrate holidays with our loved ones and we look back at 2019.
In many ways 2019 was a special year for me as it meant hitting the refresh button from both a business as well as a personal perspective. From saying goodbye to dear colleagues and friends to welcoming new ones. From finishing my first complete triathlon in 2019 to welcoming a marathon challenge.
Hitting refresh once in a while enables me to grow, always and in all ways. It satisfies my never-ending drive to explore and innovate. Including myself.
Now in the final days of 2019, I am also frequently being asked what my 2020 resolutions are and…
something happened to me the other day that caused me to re-think my New Years resolutions
Every year around Christmas we go out for dinner with the family and see a blockbuster movie at the cinema. This year, when sitting in our comfortable seats the 'obligatory' advertisements block starts.
Soon my attention is captured by an unusual promo
A group of kids are sitting together around a table in a room. They are asked to write their 'to do’s' on post-its and stick them to a wall. At the same time, their parents who are sitting in another room have the same assignment. What they both don't know is that the wall to which they stick their post-its on physically separates the two groups and can be turned around…
What happened when the wall turned took me by surprise and made me re-think my 2020 NY resolutions instantly because....
This is what was written as 'to-do's' by the parents
and this is what's written by the kids
As the parents read the post-its from the kids, I see their emotional reactions, I am speechless. Same task, completely different outcomes... On the contrary, the kids are shocked by the to do's lists of their parents...
Maybe you didn’t think of your NY resolutions yet. Or maybe you simply do not 'believe' in NY resolutions. Well, it doesn't matter because TIME is the most valuable resource we have. More valuable than anything. So we should rather spend it wisely, because every week, day, hour or minute that passes, will never come back.
So what about my 'updated'
2020 NY resolutions?
- Quality-Time is my keyword for 2020, whether in business or in private
- Instead of 'to do's' I will also focus on 'to who's'
- I will plan my holidays and time with my family and friends ahead, just like I do with my business planning
Involving Quality-Time in both our business as well as our private lives, will give us the most joyful experiences. And isn't life all about that?
Have a lot of Quality-Time in 2020!
Best wishes,
René
