How to Manage Anxiety and Boost Your Productivity

Flip The Script Like Gang Starr

High achievers such as myself (kidding) often grapple with anxiety, which can impact their productivity and well-being. By understanding the prevalence of anxiety among successful individuals, we can explore effective strategies to turn it into productivity.

We are not trying to reinvent the wheel here. Most entrepreneurs and highly successful folks have issues with anxiety, depression, or mental health in general. A strange feeling of inadequacy and the need to please factor in. I fall into the need to please space. For some reason, I get an overwhelming sense of accomplishment from helping others or ensuring people are better off than myself. It can be a wonderful asset, but also a crippling burden.

There are plenty of things we can do to make ourselves feel better or wallow in self-pity. Sometimes we need to just bury ourselves in a few mundane tasks, get out and exercise, or maybe take 17 naps with our stuffed animals. Not all coping mechanisms are healthy either yesterday I had 3 cookies and 2 giant brownies at a golf event.?

Strategies for Turning Anxiety into Productivity

  1. Reframing the Mind: Recognizing that anxiety is common can help reframe it as a potential driver of success rather than a hindrance. Viewing anxiety in a different light can empower individuals to channel it into productive energy.
  2. Exercise and Physical Activity: Exercise and meditation can enhance cognitive function, leading to improved performance. I think of it like a brain reset where you shut down the overthinking and the worry for a specified period. This helps us to refocus our efforts on anything we may be working on.
  3. Characterize your Boo Hoo Feelings: Productivity anxiety, characterized by feelings of inadequacy despite accomplishments, is a challenge. Acknowledging this phenomenon is the first step in addressing it constructively and seeking effective solutions to overcome it. I equate this aspect to my old idea of sales objections. it's how you turn a no into a yes. You acknowledge that the person (or you) has a valid point, but the end goal is to move forward. It's like an art of seduction in a weird way.

While anxiety can be a significant challenge for everyone, adopting proactive strategies to manage it can lead to improved well-being. By reframing our mindset, incorporating physical activity, and understanding the problem, we can navigate emotions and leverage them for increased success.

The overall goal is to take something bad and turn it into something good. I have a friend who works at a treatment center. She is crippled with anxiety at times. She has good and bad coping mechanisms. The good one is that she pours all of her efforts into her work with the patients inside the treatment center. She uses her personal stories and firsthand knowledge of the subject as collateral and doesn't shy away from otherwise touchy subjects. Accepting that she has had these absolutely awful life events and positively using them is an exact example of how to use one’s experience to create a positive outlook. Most people would crumble in this situation, but she came out stronger and more willing to help people. This is a pure example of someone taking what could have been her complete downfall but instead ended up becoming a shining light.??

Sometimes you have to find that happy medium between complete chaos and lack of understanding. Today seems like an ice cream day.
