Search engine optimization is the best way to increase quality and quantity of traffic to your website. SEO is not only about being found by search engine, but good SEO practices can also improve your websites usability and enhance overall use experience.
Here are some tips and tricks that will help Google to find and index your website.
Step 1: Help google to find your page
- Make your links crawlable. Google can only follow the links if they are <a> tag with an href attribute. Links that use other formats won't be followed by Google's crawlers.
Here are examples:
Can follow: <a href="https://example.com
Can't follow: <a routerLink="some/path">
- Provide Sitemap. It is an XML file that lists URLs for a site along with additional metadata about each URL (Such as when it was last updated, how often it usually changes, and how important it is, etc.) It helps search engines to crawl your website more intelligently.
- Limit the number of links on a page. If your links are useful for your users, it’s okay.
- Make sure that your webserver correctly supports the “If-Modified-Since” HTTP header. This feature directs your webserver to tell Google if your content has changed since we last crawled your site. To see if your site is using if modified since using the Varvy SEO tool.
- Use the robots.txt file on your webserver to manage your crawling budget by preventing crawling of infinite spaces.
- If you’ve recently added or made changes to a page on your site, you can ask Google to (re)index it by using URL Inspection tool.
- Make sure that the market is aware of your online presence. Market your content, share it on social media, guest blog, exchange links, etc.
Step 2: Help google to understand your page
- Create a content-rich website. Make website primarily for users, not for search engines.
- Research keywords and make sure that your content has those keywords within it.
- While choosing a content management system (such as Wix or WordPress), make sure that it creates pages and links that search engines can crawl.
- Allow search bots to crawl your site without session IDs or URL parameters that track their path through the site. These techniques may result in incomplete indexing of your site.
- Make your site's important content visible by default not hidden inside navigational elements such as tabs or expanding sections.
- Make a conscious effort to ensure that advertisement links on your pages do not affect search engine rankings. For example, use robots.txt or rel="nofollow" to prevent advertisement links from being followed by a crawler.
Follow best practices for Visual Content (Images, Videos, GIFs, etc.)
- Make sure that your visual content is relevant to the topic of the page.
- Place images near relevant text.
- Placing the most important image near the top of the page when it makes sense.
- High-quality photos charm users more than blurry, unclear images. Also, sharp images are more appealing to users in the result thumbnail and increase the likelihood of getting traffic.
- Google extracts information about the visual content from the content of the page, including captions and image titles. Provide all the information carefully.
- Likewise, the filename can give Google clues about the subject matter of the image. For example, my-new-black-kitten.jpg is better than IMG00023.JPG.
Step 3: Help visitors use your pages
- Try to use text instead of images to display important names, content, or links. If you must use images for textual content, use the alt attribute to include a few words of descriptive text.
- Ensure that all links go to live web pages. Use valid HTML. Use https://validator.w3.org/ to HTML validation.
- Use tools like Page Speed Insights and Webpagetest.org to test the performance of your page.
- Design your site for all device types and sizes, including desktops, tablets, and smartphones. Use the mobile friendly testing tools.
- Ensure that your site appears correctly in different browsers.
- Secure your site's connections with HTTPS. Encrypting interactions between the user and your website is a good practice for communication on the web.
Don't trick search engine by using cheap SEO tricks that will not give you long term results. Provide quality content and follow this 3-step guide to optimize your websites ranking and performance in search engine. Apart from that think what makes your website stand out from the crowd, work on that. After all content is the king. A quality content with excellent SEO will lead towards success.
