How to make work from home work for you

Since most of the professionals have been working from home amid the coronavirus outbreak, it is important to understand how any professional can do justice to his or her work. Since most of the people have never ever in their lives experienced any situation where office and work have been at the same place, few suggestions can help to bring effectiveness on the work front.

It is important to stick to your routine

It is vital to start your day as usual. Having a lazy starts spoils the momentum and productivity of the day. A quick session of exercise or yoga at home will give you a head start to proceed well throughout the day. If possible try to shun yourself from any negative news in the morning.  Your energy levels pin down if you cater to negative influence.

Showering and dressing up is important and should be done as if you are to go to the office. The idea of staying in your favorite night suit the entire day is a bad one. A crisp ironed shirt will definitely bring you in the working mode. Also, don’t forget to wear your favorite shoes, after all who goes to office in chappals.

Create an office space

Ensure that there a separate space in your house to work. There is no wisdom that you keep working at different places of the house.  Sitting on your living room’s couch or in your bed will not give you an office vibe. You can keep a plant on your work desk as greenery infuses positive vibes. A planner will keep you focused. A water bottle and some dry fruits will definitely keep you energetic.

Respect your office timings

While in a discussion with a female colleague, she wanted to go to the office to get some respite from the house hold chores. (No pun intended) . To draw a line between office tasks and work assignments is crucial. If you will try to squeeze in that little extra time to attend to household activities, you would be drained by the end of the day. Don’t forget that before WFH, you were not  handling the home tasks during your office time. Stop expecting yourself to be a Super human who would be able to handle everything at the same time.

Don’t forget to enjoy your breaks

There might be no cafeteria around but that doesn’t mean that you are going to deprive yourself of the luxury of those tea or juice breaks. You can always make your favorite cup of tea and de stress yourself. Spending some time in the kitchen is a therapy.

Also, don’t check your emails while having the tea breaks or the lunch intervals. You never check your mails while sipping coffee or while indulging in your favorite rogan josh in office. Why do it now?

Avoid undue interference

While attending to some important calls, if your maid comes for cleaning the room or your kid bangs in to show you his drawing or your spouse enters for a random discussion, your work will be interrupted. It will be wise that you clearly communicate to your family not to disturb you while you are working.

 Team bonding is important

?The crucial challenge comes in front of the manager is to keep the team together. Working from home definitely   affects the team spirit of the colleagues. Manager s should encourage the team members to play some online games on Friday evenings, or call for a shared movie evening. Also, a photography competition can be fun.  Colleagues can socialize over a group chat or can have collaborative play lists.

Distance yourself from work after office hours

Since your office is at home and your home is at office, it becomes difficult to get into the working mode. The best way to distance yourself can be to keep your phones aside. You can leave the phone aside and can go to your balcony to get some fresh air. Talking to your loved ones and spending some good time with them were the opportunities you have been craving for long. Make the most of it now as you are saving a lot of travel time.  Seize this time.

I am sure a little conscious effort will help us adapt better to this new way of working. Hope we all work happily from our homes and the world recovers soon.
