When you have a busy schedule, no matter if you're an adult or a teenager, you should be able to relax once in a while and focus on yourself. This can seem hard with demands of work, school & family life. But it's also important to your overall well-being.
Aren’t there a hundred different things you wish you could do with your life someday-anything from exercising to sleeping an extra hour to writing that novel you always wished you could write, to reading more? The fact is, we all have the same amount of time, and it's in great demand.
"The real problem of leisure time is how to keep others from using yours"
Time is a funny thing. It can fly, run out, and be up. It can be spent, killed and passed. With all of these amazing things time does, people never seem to actually have any of it! People seem to think that if you get more done in a day, you simply have more 'free' time than they do. Don't be silly! Of course you have time! Lack of time is just another excuse. No matter how busy you are, how much you work or socialise, you always still have time left.
"Try not. Do or do not. There is no try."
9 Ways To Make Time For Yourself...
1) Make Time Where You Can
It can seem like everything is important, especially when it comes to work and tasks around the house. Delegate some of your responsibility or cut out what isn't absolutely necessary to your day to clear your schedule. Don't feel like you need to do everything yourself.
2) Put Down The Electronics
The biggest of distractions, for most people, is the Internet. It's easy to be sucked into a social media app or television shows for hours. You may enjoy these activities but they can also consume all of your free time, many times without even seeming like it. The most productive times are when you are disconnected from the grid. Spend some time being alone. For an hour each day, put down your phone, computer & even your TV. Get the most of your time by experiencing it radically present, not mindlessly wrapped up in an app.
3) Accept Not Doing Things Perfectly
Often people are bogged down the need to get every task just right. This can mean you stay after work, answer work e-mails on the weekend or simply can't go to sleep until all of the dishes are done. Accept that you can't get everything done. At a certain point every night, put everything down and focus on doing something you want.
4) Learn To Say No
If you say "yes" to every request, you will never have any free time. Get super protective about your time, and say "no" to everything but the essential requests. "Whatever that costs your mental peace is too expensive" remember this.
5) Keep Your List To 3 & Do Your Biggest Rock First
When you make out your daily to-do-list, just list the three most important tasks you want to accomplish today. Don't make a laundry list of tasks or you'll fill up all your free time. Do your biggest rock first which means pick the biggest one or the one you are dreading most task out of the 3 and do that first. It starts your day with a major accomplishment, and leaves you with a lot of free time the rest of the day, because the most important thing is already done.
6) Keep It Simple
It's important not to make your personal goal too complicated. You don't want to have huge list of things to do in order to accomplish your goal. Instead, focus on a smaller sub-goal that will lead you to your bigger goal.
7) Start Doing Things You’ve Put Off
Don't get on Facebook, but decorate pictures. Do something that you kept promising yourself or others that you would do. This can be a craft project or reorganizing your kitchen. Make sure it's something that you look forward to and will enjoy because you'll be more likely to keep making time for it. Do one of your hobbies you have trouble finding time for. Draw, sew, knit, make jewellery, just do something that you like to do.
8) Find Time For Friends And Family
Part of finding time for yourself is reminding yourself that your job is not everything. This does not necessarily mean you have to spend your time alone. In order to be a successful person you must prioritize your relationships with friends and family as well as your work.
9) Make Use Of Your Mornings And Evenings
Mornings are great because your day hasn't been filled with a bunch of unscheduled, demanding, last minute tasks that will push back those Essential List of the day. Try to schedule your Essential List things in morning so that it rarely gets pushed back. The time before you go to bed is also golden, as it exists every single day, and it's usually completely yours to schedule. What do you want to do with this time? Take advantage of this time.
KNOW THAT YOU ARE IMPORTANT TO YOURSELF TOO.
