How to make things take less time

How to make things take less time

Time is our most precious resource. Once today is gone, it's gone.

Read these next questions and see what immediate answers arrive in your mind:

  • How much time will it take to win a new client contract?
  • How long does it take to learn to read?
  • How long does it take to read a book?
  • How long does it take to trust someone?
  • How long does it take to really get to know someone’s soul?

How much time will it take? we ask. If we answer with depth, the truth is: It depends.

  • How long does it take to influence someone?
  • How long will it take before your team buys into the new strategy?

It depends!

Many of the "how-much-time-does-it-take" variables are out of your hands.

One, however, is directly in your gift to take charge of.

You have the gift of choosing how you show up.

You have the gift of working on your approach and the quality of who you are.

You could show upto a team meeting focused only on the target with a pushy impatience to convince your team of something because you need buy-in really fast and that might work.... Or maybe that approach would lead to shallow buy-in that later would result in all kinds of slow-downs.

Instead you could get really present on reading between the lines and listening deeply to what your team needs to buy in to things with a full genuine yes. Will it really be slower? Or will it just take something different of you?

It requires more of you to get something done fast, if you also want it done in a way that strengthens relationships and develops people at the same time.

It requires your presence and focus.

It requires you to build on skills and improve the quality of who you show up as.

The you of today benefits from the work you put in to develop your people skills 10 years ago.

And the you 5 years in the future will benefit from skills and experiences you are growing through right now.

That is... if you take time to learn and grow. Not everyone does. Some people are so busy do-ing. That they forget to learn and grow. It’s a small shift. It makes a massive difference.

  1. What will you focus on developing today?
  2. And who is on your personal development team?

There are free and paid resources available in any shape to help you grow and develop: 1:1 coaching, in person workshops, online trainings, self-organised initiatives, peer-lead groups and so much more.

The choice is yours.

So if you are too busy to focus on developing today, you are short-changing the you of tomorrow.

And of course, now is a great time to breathe,

Noomi
