How to Make a Sweet End of a Project

How to Make a Sweet End of a Project

Project management?gives you the ability to quickly set a hierarchy of tasks for efficient and effective completion. It also allows you to indicate which actions are sequential and which tasks are dependent on one another. In turn, this makes it easier for the team to do their task.

We would like to focus on some most important factors during the execution of project/commissioning activities related to a thermal power plant.

General Method

1) Daily Review meeting

2) Weekly review meeting?

3) PRT

Project management tools are?a set of software designed to help project teams to plan a project, and track & manage the projects to achieve the defined project goals within the time. It also helps team members to collaborate effectively and accelerate the projects to meet the specified constraints

Tools

Some are the following old days' project management tools that were generally used for monitoring the progress of a project.

  • Network Diagrams.
  • Critical Path Method.
  • Gantt Charts.
  • Project Evaluation and Review Technique.
  • Work Breakdown Structure.
  • Project Documentation.

Nowadays new era of IT-based following tools are used for managing projects.

10 useful tools that every Project Manager should know about

  • Microsoft Project. Microsoft Project has been created to help project managers in planning development, distributing resources, tracking progress, and analyzing work volumes.
  • Skype for Business.
  • Trello.
  • Evernote.
  • Microsoft Visio.
  • VSDX Annotator.
  • Smart Draw.
  • JIRA.

A manager can plan, develop, distribute resources, track progress, and analyze work volumes with the help of tools like Microsoft Project or likewise.

During a special task assigned to me by then CMD, NTPC Limited (on the recommendation of GM) to overcome minute hurdles in project execution. The project was a high priority relating to NTPC -Dadri 2*490 MW UNITS Priority project for commonwealth games.

I take this opportunity to share my on-site observations and experiences during project execution. I realized that above all tools may not deliver the desired result if we will not focus on following key success factors that are not on the priority list initially which requires priority to achieve a set of desired goals & milestones.

?If we neglect them then they tend to have a great impact on the success or failure of any project.

1) Appointment of an empowered traffic/state officer other than a safety officer at the site. Ensure the movement of crane Hydra Dumpers with the prior permission of that notified officer so that chaos /blockades can be avoided at the site.?

2) Proper identifying/specified/allocation store space for each agency

3) Proper approach road for movement of Hydra/ Crane/ trucks/dumpers?

4) Earth leveling, Proper drainage shedding, barricading, water supply, electrical supply (For preserving received materials at the site)

5) Proper identifying/specified/allocation fabrication yard/space for each agency

6) Proper approach road for movement of Hydra/ Crane/ trucks/dumpers?

7) Earth leveling, Proper drainage shedding, barricading, water supply, electrical supply (For safely fabrication and to ensure safe transportation at the site)

8) Ensure proper & prior accommodation arrangement/transportation/gate pass/ health checkup /safety training/ canteen facility/restroom nearby site for contractor works force.?

9) Arrangement to supply water /tea & snacks with washroom facility for workers who are working at height, especially boiler/CHP

10) All safety compliance is to be ensured before entering the project site.

11) Strict monitoring of skilled manpower requirements as per milestone

12) EBM (Equated budget monitoring in real term or as per L2 network

13) If some agency fails to deliver desired result / non-mobilization of resources then local management should be empowered to arrange an alternate as soon as possible or call the L2 vendor??

14) Strict monitoring of & ensure delivery of materials that are required as per PERT

15) Last but not least daily housekeeping/ scrap/garbage disposal on priority for providing a safe, hygienic, and healthy work environment.

Hence, I would recommend project managers to have an open eye for detail, as well as technical and human understanding of the project at hand. Don't fall into the trap of theories!
